If it weren't D-Lee, I'd probably agree with you.

I don't blame Harden for shutting it down. He's probably one of the top starting pitchers on the market this offseason although I can't see him cashing in on a huge deal. 3 years $36 million probably is the best he'll get with his injury history.

    Agreed on both.

There is no reason for ARam, Soto, Lee, Soriano, any of the starting pitchers, and Marmol to be playing unless they really want to. These guys will be key pieces for the Cubs next year and if one of them sustains a serious injury (shoulder for pitcher, knee for hitter) playing meaningless games the manager should be fired.

Harden will max out at 3 years and I think it's more likely it will be two years. I think he'll make between 10-15 million a year depending on how many years.

Re: Only could happen to the Cubs...

Here's guys that I'd like to see get as much time as possible the rest of the season:

Blanco: At the very least he's a utility infielder next year. The kid has a very impressive glove but can he hit enough to see consistent time?
Colvin: I think he's still at least a year away from being in the picture but never hurts to give him regular time and get some expirience in some meaningless games right now
Fox: There is no doubt this kid can hit, just wish we had a spot on the field to play him. 3B is probably his best position and he's not spectacular there defensively but is adequate. Hate to say it but they should explore a trade and get some value while they can before he becomes another 4A player.
Hoffpauier: Same as above but 1B is his spot. Another guy to explore a trade with.
Fuld: He's got a great glove, probably not an every day starter but would be a good 4th OF
Gorzellany: With the possibility of losing Harden he might be in the mix for the #5 spot in the rotation next season
Samardzija: Same thing as Gorz but at this point we need to see something of him either as a starter or reliever to believe he's got a future with the team long term. He's been really up and down all season.
Justin Berg: 0.00 ERA with just 1 walk in 7.2 innings. he's 25, possibly bullpen audition for 2010
Jeff Stevens: part of the DeRosa trade, has shown at times he might turn into a decent reliever but his ERA and WHIP are a little high from 3 bad outings.
Caridad: another kid that has been good in 14.1 innings with a 1.88 ERA in the bullpen

Grabow and Jeff Baker will be 2 guys the Cubs will have to decide what to do. Grabow has been great since the trade but has been good enough he could be a pricey lefty on the market. Baker has hit .329 since coming over from Colorado but he's still never been a fulltime guy so can he produce enough to be an everyday 2B?

I don't trust Baker. He was horrible until the Cubs were all but out of the playoff race. Keep in mind that Fontenot looked like a stud in part time duty last year also. I wouldn't mind keeping Baker around, but I'd hate to see the Cubs count on him to be the starter next year. I think it will be the Fontenot situation all over again.

By the way travman, that's pretty much what I was thinking on who should be seeing playing time. Give the younger inexperienced guys an audition to see more playing time next year, or at the very least help to increase their trade value.

Baker has hit over .350 since the beginning of August. He also wasn't horrible before that either. Also, Fontenot was a stud when was a utility player, getting 300 at bats. The role he was in at the beginning of the year didn't suit him. Baker > Fontenot for next year.

This thread would disagree with you. At the time of this thread he was hitting an amazing .163
