ISU vs. KU Postgame - A bit of perspective

Lets take a look at how easy KU has had it - not just today...but this month...

    L A&M by 3
    W K-State by 27
    W at MO by 18
    W at CU by 29
    W NE by 53
    W at K-State by 9

Average different in the wins? 27.2 points. If you wanted to go back further, you could. KU hasnít really been tested most of the Big 12 season.

It's looked easy for KU all month except for A&M and K-State. Why?

Both of these teams are much better than ISU and the key is - more physical. If you can be physical against KU - you can play with them. If not, forget it. Weíre in that forget it category.

A number of fans accused the team of quitting, not trying, etc. No, I donít think we saw our best effort today as we did the first time we faced KU. When there is a complete talent mismatch, it can appear that the losing end isn't trying. I can tell the difference and this team didnít quit.

Furthermore, if we had a team with quit in them, do you think we would've won Wednesday? Or how about when we made a late run on Texas?

It's very easy to sit behind your keyboard and accuse players for not trying when they're getting hammered by the #6 team in the nation, on the road. Real easy.

We knew this season would be a tough one to endure and it wasnít the fault of any one person really. So why blame our players for something they really didnít have much control over?

Gotta take the good with the bad. This too, shall pass. Hopefully sooner than later.

I'm sorry but 15 points in one half of play is not acceptable. I'm glad they did a bit better in the second half, but they need to put together an entire game.

Yeah, I get the whole perspective thing and I"m not going to jump off a bridge because of tonight but this was unacceptable to play SO bad. A loss is a loss but that was brutal.

We haven't exactly shown we could put a full game together all year. And we haven't exactly shown we could start the game well most of the year earlier.

Why expect something different when we're at the #6 team in the nation?

I don't expect different for any game, any time, at any point of the year. 15 points in a half = weak.

Re: ISU vs. KU Postgame - A bit of perspective

I agree with ISUFan22. I dont think they quit. This was not a great game on their part by any means and wasn't their best effort. I expect to see better games next year. This year had its ups and downs, but I have never seen them quit. Turnover killed them again tonight. Some silly stupid ones and their shooting was horrific. Kansas has the depth and talent, but like I have said before they can be beaten and most likely will go out 2nd - 3rd round NCAA tourney time. I just have a feeling. Right now it seems dismal as we fight for the bottom feeder supremacy, but I see great things on the horizon and will party the day we start to kick KU up and down the floor.

Re: ISU vs. KU Postgame - A bit of perspective

When very good meets not so good, most of the time not so good produces weak.

KU just was all over us today. We'd get nailed in one direction then another. Our team was reeling most of the day rather than doing any sort of attacking.

It was next to impossible for them to get in any sort of rhythm.

I look at it like an excellent boxer meeting a poor one. Today, we were in the ropes most of the time and we got knocked the heck out.

Jiri and Mike have been doubleteamed more because we have few shooters. Wesley has gone cold. Now we need someone else to step up and score like McIntosh did last game.

Agreed we didn't quit. But! We were slow to the ball all game long. Just plain not reacting. rebounds bounced. passes tipped away because we didn't come to them. loose balls, we freeze. I realize we were completely outmatched, but at this point in the year, I am hoping our inexperience doesn't show this much.

Maybe we have peaked for the year. Our best games were first kansas game and Oklahoma home game.

Re: ISU vs. KU Postgame - A bit of perspective

after some thought, the fact is, this team just lost only one game, and are one win from last season's conference total of 6 wins. With what we had last year compared to this year, 5 wins is a miracle. What McDermott has done with this team, and looking back at the progress we have made from the first few games, it is remarkable. This team does need support, and we should pay our respects to the efforts of this undersized, talent poor squad that really gave it their all this season. I would love to see a packed house against Tech, regardless of the effort tonight and what the result is against Nebraska.

I'm not giving up either but the thing that bothered me was not getting after the loose balls. All-Americans or not, you can fight hard for rebounds and go after the loose balls. Too often I saw our guys being passive in that regard. Kansas has loads more talent than we did on the floor and the score reflected that. I would've liked to see us go down swinging and not have that deer-in-the-headlights look for much of the game.

Re: ISU vs. KU Postgame - A bit of perspective

This blowout loss to Kansas kind of reminded me of Custer and the Indians. Poor old Custer just got overwhelmed by more and better Indians.

KU is always gonna have a lot more and better Indians. Kansas and aTm are the class of the big 12 right now.

KU has had and will probably continue to have superior talent, not just to ISU, but most of the NCAA. The reason we've been successful against them in the past is sheer effort and determination. This loss hurt more than it could have, because I didn't see much of that this time. Look at the disparity in rebounds, points off turnovers, and shooting percentage. It's also unfortunate that ESPN had to cover such a turd of a game. At least Franklin and Fraschilla commented about Coach Mac having to replace nearly the entire team in a couple weeks. Still a very hard loss, though.

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.
