Husker starting QB has broken thumb

Word is finally getting out of Lincoln that QB Zac Lee has a fracture in the thumb of his non-throwing hand.

First Bo tried to say yesterday that he had no problem.

Then he claimed that he had a "splinter".

Then he said that he missed practice Monday because of a precaution to a shot for an "illness".

Now most are agreeing that there is a thumb fracture, but no agreement on when it occurred or what the impact will be on playing time.

Because of injuries and defections, the backup is a true freshman. The Huskers have a patsy this week, but hope that Lee can be effective by the Mizzou game.

Re: Husker starting QB has broken thumb

If a true freshman does have to see signincant (sp?) playing time this weekend, i'm not worried about it.

    Omaha.com - The Omaha World-Herald: - Reassessing Lee's left thumb

Zac Lee does have a broken thumb, after all. Coach Bo Pelini and the Nebraska quarterback offered an explanation today that makes sense: Lee is wearing a stabilizing device on the thumb of his non-throwing hand to protect a small fracture in the top joint.

He's still set to start Saturday against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Lee missed practice Monday after taking an anti-inflammatory medication for the injured digit, he said.

The injury occurred in the Huskers' 16-15 loss to Virginia Tech. Lee finished the game and was fitted with the wrap when he returned to Lincoln.

He plans to practice today while wearing it and said he did not expect the device to hinder his ability to take a snap or make it pitch. If it does, he'll just remove the device.

Maybe they are just setting the stage for the freshman. The Huskers were really high on that guy.

Cody Green was a very highly regarded QB coming out of Dayton, Texas. He led his team to the Class 4A state championship game a year ago and enrolled at Nebraska at mid-term so he could participate in spring practice. Both his passing and running stats were very impressive. A lot of Nebraska people think he ultimately would have won the starting job injury to Lee or not. I guess time will tell.

I've also heard that he has mastered less than 40% of the offense.

Their collective ability to identify quality QB play is lacking. Green may turn out to be all world, but I'll reserve judgment until he plays.

It's all those years of running QBs...I don't think that those fans can judge QBs very well.

Baloney. Green has already played some, and in his limited time (yes, garbage time. He has shown to have a lot of talent. Had a 50 yard run in the first game.

Your argument is hardly compelling. The Nebraska fan base was also high on Tommie Frazier, Scott Frost, and Eric Crouch. I'd say they were "identified" pretty well by the fan base.

Beck was clearly overhyped, Keller was hyped too, but even though he ended up a bust at NU, he was a proven D1 QB at ASU and definitely had talent. Nobody that I'm aware of thought much more of Witt than they did of Ganz. Taylor was actually pretty hyped.

Absolutely no different than any other fan base. How about Bo Williams? How about this "money" guy? Not exactly lighting it up despite the ridiculous hype by ISU fans. Wasn't Waye Terry supposed to be the next Seneca Wallace? How about that other receiver you have that chose ISU over aTm? Average at best.

Care to take a look at all the players ISU fans have hyped in the last few years, only to go 11-28 since McCarney's last year?

I'd all the years of losing football has caused your fans to not be able to judge any football players very well.

I still find it ironic that they were laughing at us for hiring him earlier this decade, but then go to the top of the water tower with cans of spray paint to defend his dignity when ISU fans laugh at Nebraska for re-hiring him...

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Probably because we hired him as an OC and they hired him back as an O-Line coach...where he belongs.
