    Bradley for Perez?

There is no indication the Cubs and Mets have discussed swapping disappointing free agent signings Milton Bradley and Oliver Perez. It makes for interesting discussion, however. Joel Sherman of the New York Post even wonders if an expanded deal could include Carlos Zambrano or Luis Castillo.
Bradley's power disappeared this year en route to a .257/.378/.397 line in 473 plate appearances. He adapted poorly to Chicago, his season ending with a team-mandated suspension for his negative comments. Would New York be any easier? The switch-hitting Bradley turns 32 in April and has $21MM remaining on his contract.
Perez's already-lousy control worsened to a ridiculous 7.9 walks per nine innings in his 14 starts this year. He still piled up strikeouts, but home runs and hits were a problem as well. His 28.3% groundball rate was among the lowest in baseball. Perez arrived at Spring Training from the WBC out of shape, and was booted to the bullpen in May. He dealt with a knee problem thereafter and had season-ending surgery in August. The 28-year-old Scott Boras client has $24MM remaining on his contract.

Bradley for Corey Patterson looks like a good deal now.
Heck, Milton Bradley for Milton Berle would be a good deal now.
Can we have a Cubs/Cyclone Convention. You know, flog ourselves and ask for communal penance.

    Re: Bradley for Perez?

Cubs GM Jim Hendry declined to discuss his plans for the remaining two years of Milton Bradley's contract, but sources confirmed again Sunday what has been reported for weeks: The Cubs will attempt to trade Bradley, even if it means eating much of the remaining $21 million on the contract. The Cubs have looked into possible interest in Bradley since July and found enough listeners to suggest they might be able to find him a new home, likely in a smaller media market with a bigger home clubhouse -- similar to places where he has tended to have better seasons. ''You never see that,'' said Cubs veteran Aramis Ramirez, who said he never got to know Bradley and doesn't expect him to return next season. ''Never see a GM suspend a player because of something he's doing or something he says in the paper. But Jim's got a point. If you don't want to be here, send him home. That's the bottom line.'' -- Chicago Sun-Times .....Ben's Take: Milton has the Royals or A's in his baseball future.

    Re: Bradley for Perez?

If he doesn't like the media, the Mets would be foolish to take him in NY. I might do the deal as a Cub fan, but I can't see the Mets going it.

Found this article on ESPN Chicago that I think sums up the situation fairly well.

    Re: Bradley for Perez?

LOL @ Sherman even thinking the Cubs would want any part of Castillo.

The Cubs don't need a pitcher. I think trading for the artist formally know as Vernon Wells is a lot more believable.

    Re: Bradley for Perez?

Olney says the Cubs will likely have to eat a huge portion of Bradley's contract to move him, perhaps as much as $18-19MM. The Cubs owe the 31-year-old $21MM over the next two years.
The Padres may be looking for a corner outfielder this offseason, so they could have interest in Bradley.

I'd have to question any team that would have an interest in Bradley - especially one that has had him on the roster in the past. This doesn't even consider the possibility of giving up much if any talent to acquire him or agreeing to pick up much of his salary.

I would have to agree, unless it was an AL team who needed someone to DH.

The last thing the Cubs need is pitching. The only difference between this years staff and the 2008 staff was switching out Jason Marquis for Randy Wells.

What the Cubs need is a 2nd baseman who can actually hit..but they have that guy playing shortstop, while a guy who has better range (Blanco), and is better to suited to play SS, sits on the bench.
