Hard to rip this article as they really only lay out the facts and keep most opinion out of it.

If they don't like it, they can solve it-it's simple Keynsian economics. Don't buy the tickets, and then the market will dictate that the price was too high. But they will fly out of Iowa City so fast it will make your head spin

    Re: Hawk squawk!

I honestly think it was a legit article. I don't think an ISU-Iowa game should cost more than a Michigan-OSU game. Part of the fun is having the EIU students come over and we all tailgate together and we get to talk trash all night long and then when ISU wins, its all the better that so many iowa faithful came over. We get to completely rub it in their faces before they drive home. Now, it'll just be people with money or connections coming over and to me the game won't have the same competitive atmosphere.

Sounds like a good business decision on Pollards part to me. It's kind of a no brainer to capitalize on a rivalry game.

    Re: Hawk squawk!

I don't see anything about this rivalry changing anytime soon. I'm willing to guess that there will be just about as many people in Ames in September as there always has been for this game. No matter how "easy" it is to get a ticket, there are always hunderds-thousands of people in the lots during the game watching it on their TVs, or listening to it on the radio. The tickets will sell, just look at how much scalpers charge outside the gates. The usually go for at least $100 anyways. All the complaining about this situation is just some Hawk fans blabbing, which is what I think is the real cause to global warming anyway. Damn their hot-air...

Pollard is the man. The money for the game should go to ISU instead of scalpers.

I approve of this, I've always been bothered about how much ticket resellers make when none of that money goes to the university. This is a good decision.

Technically, it always has. To scalp tickets, you need to buy them first, so the money did go to the athletic department. However, you will never really be able to stop scalpers from making money off of a rivalry/big game. We may be cutting into their profits a bit by this move, but they could just as easily up their prices a bit, and likely still make their money.

    You the man ClonesRule91!!!

Just to set the record straight I paid $90 per ticket last fall for the Texas A&M game last year against Nebraska at College Station TX.

So the ninety dollar ticket for the Iowa game this year is NOT out of line and I agree with Jamie Pollard that when, what you have been doing is NOT working try something NEW!

    Jamie is truly "The Man"!!

Why? Your post is pointless if you dont explain it.

I think this is a great idea. Get the most money you can out of those rich hawk fans. If they did the same thing I might b*tch about it for a minute and then get out the credit card.

If they think the prices are too high, don't buy...
I'd pay $90 every year to watch the Cyclones beat up on the Hawks...

    Re: Hawk squawk!

Does anyone really think the tickets won't sell out even at $90? Great move by the athletic department.

    Re: Hawk squawk!

Is there anything contracturally that limits the price that can be charged for these tickets?
Could Iowa raise the price to $500 per ticket for the 4000 ISU tickets the following year, then we raise to $1000, etc.
