Better idea than home & home with MAC teams

The attendance at last night's game was a new low.

We are a Big XII team, we need to be above playing road games at places like Kent State. Looking at future schedules, we have road games at Tulsa, Toledo, San Jose State, and Kent State (again) already scheduled -- yuck.

Why don't we do what other teams are doing? Ohio State has a home & home with Toledo; one game in Columbus and the game "at" Toledo is played in Cleveland at the Brown's Stadium. I think Iowa did the same thing playing "at" Northern Illinois in Soldier Field a few years ago. We can do the same thing, it's good for our alumni in big cities around the midwest and it's good for our players to play in a NFL stadium. We could play any of these:

Home & home with any of the Dakota schools with one game in Jack Trice & one game in the Metrodome.

Home & home with Tulsa, Arkansas State, or any of the Missouri directional schools with one game in Jack Trice and one game in Arrowhead -- yes we're doing it with Kansas State, but this is much better -- either way we play in KC, but instead of giving up a conference home game we'd be giving up a nonconference road game. Big difference.

Home & home with Northern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, or Ball State with one game in Jack Trice and one game in Soldier Field.

Home & home with Rice, SMU, Houston, TCU, or UTEP with one game at Jack Trice and one game at the Cowboy's Stadium in Dallas.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

Its a good idea if they could make it a solid financial deal. I think the KSU game will be a good tell to how well ISU fans will travel for a non-bowl football game.

I don't understand why you think ISU is above playing these games. Everyone does it. Oklahoma and Texas have played games at UTEP, Tulsa, and Wyoming in the last two seasons.

Didn't Texas just play a game at Wyoming?

Good to know ISU is on a higher level than Texas and Okie since they play road games at lesser schools and you think ISU shouldnt

Teams play in NFL stadiums because the that stadium or the NFL team offers a $$$ guarantee for the competing universities. Soldier Field knew they could offer big bucks to NIU and Iowa and still make money.
So you tell me: why would the Cowboys, or Vikings, or the Bears and Soldier Field, want Iowa State to play in their venue? What would be the draw to attract fans?

Re: Better idea than home & home with MAC teams

Why does it matter who we play? This isn't NCAA basketball where a selection committee looks at your SOS. You try to get to 6 wins as easy as possible, if that means scheduling MAC teams then so be it. I just want wins at this point.

Agree with all except San Jose State. That will be a sweet road trip. What year is that game?

Like the NFL stadium idea....I thought we have filled Arrowhead and Reliant reasonably well (Reliant could have been filled a little better though) in the past.

    Is this post serious?

None of the examples you gave for ISU come even close to Ohio State playing Toledo in Cleveland or even Iowa playing NIU at Soldier Field.

A Dakota school at the Metrodome? Arkansas State in KC? I can't think of a single non-BCS school outside of NIU that we could even attempt this with and have it make even the slightest bit of sense.

The reason is that those teams are getting $800,000 and up to play at BCS schools with no home and home arrangement.
However, ISU can't afford that, and pays between $350,000 and $400,000 to play at JTS. To get schools like Kent State and Toledo to come here at all for that money, we have to agree to play at their place in return.

    Colorado played at Toledo.
    Texas played at Wyoming.

These games are scheduled years out from when they are played. You can not predict how good a team is going to be. I wish we had more games like the Kent State game.

Re: Better idea than home & home with MAC teams

We also get 2 for 1 out of most of these games. Something you won't get with BCS conference teams usually.

Which helps us get those two-three (guaranteed) non-conf games in the Jack every season.

UNI puts more people in the DOME then KSU. We should just play some dome games.

I think ISU vs. Arkansas at Arrowhead would be a good matchup since Kansas City would be a true middle between the two schools. Ames is 250 miles vs. Manhattan being 100.

There were 10,000 people at last nights game, half from I State. Do you know what that would look like at Browns stadium?
