    Mediacom Internet

I haven't had it for a long time, it was unreliable like 6 years ago. I like my qwest dsl, except for being stuck on 1.5 for a long, long time. Live in WDM near waukee (we are in waukee school district), how bad is it going to be moving over.

Personally, I wouldn't use anything else for internet. I think I have had 3 outages in 2 years that lasted for less than an hour.

    Re: Mediacom Internet

If you would've switched before yesterday, you could've watched the game last night.

There was a period of about a month or so this past summer where it seemed like it went down about once a week for a few hours. That was getting pretty frustrating, but it hasn't happened since (knocking on wood). It had been very reliable before that period too, so they must've just been experiencing some kind of glitch.

    Re: Mediacom Internet

I don't currently have it, but it's fairly reliable. With cable Internet, you can notice slow downs if a lot in your neighborhood have it and are using it.

The biggest drawback to Mediacom Internet: having to deal with Mediacom.

    Re: Mediacom Internet

mediacom is pretty reliable on the internet side. and they just increased the speeds to 12mbit on the standard package. Pricing on the internet isnt horrible either (tv is another issue entirely)

Havent had qwest before.... for some reason my little area (just west of jordan creek town center) doesnt get qwest, only this little provider called 'hickory tech', that has speeds that max out at somewhere near 1mbit.

    Re: Mediacom Internet

I've had both. I don't think there's much difference in reliability between the two for most people, and Mediacom is much, much faster.

I think I've had one or two outages in 2 years, and they were both pretty brief.

Short of FIOS (to the premises, not the way Qwest is deploying it here), Cable is going to be the best option for high speed broadband for quite a while, IMO.

The only downside is dealing with Mediacom's still abysmal customer service. I HATE the company with a burning passion. I love the service enough to deal with it.

    Re: Mediacom Internet

Yeah, I wish I had switched over to catch the game last night. Not glad to hear the customer service is still horrible, but if there aren't a lot of outages then I won't care that much. Before I'd lose internet for days at a time each year, can't be having that.

    Weird about Hickory Tech, lol.

I've never had an issue with Mediacom on any level. I've been a subscriber for as long as they've been in CR.

    Re: Mediacom Internet

I've had it going on 8 years now. It was up and down all the time, but seems to be more reliable now. Live in WDM not too far from Valley.

That being said ... it dropped about 6:05 last night and I didn't get it back unitl about 7:00. So missed about 90% of the first half.

Talked with the guys from QWest at the fair (looking to move to DSL and DirecTV). They advertise about the same speeds as Mediacom, and what they advertise is the same 6 megabit I get currently. My inlaws have DSL - I don't notice a whole lot of difference.

    Re: Mediacom Internet

I'm a seven year subscriber and I personally prefer it over DTV. (I've had both) ...probably the biggest reason for the switch (at the time) is because whenever severe weather moved thru the city, the reception would just go digital and cut out, ..."There's a tornado heading directly for the...." and that would be it. A loud crack of thunder & lightning, and I have no info on the latest weather conditions.
But so far I've been able to watch all 3 ISU games, some local highschool football games, enjoy highspeed internet, phone service, and just one bill that comes in the mail monthly for all of it. It really is cool (for me) And if you have Mediacom, you can click here and watch a replay of the ISU @ Kent St game. http://espn.go.com/broadband/espn360...0014&sportCode= I personally like the "Key plays" feature! Just click on the big plays and watch only the scores and stuff like that, already q'ued for you! If you don't have Mediacom, click on the link anyway, I'm curious if anyone else can bring it up.

    Re: Mediacom Internet

I was fine with mediacom HSI but the price made me switch to DSL.

    I pay $25/month for DSL

Mediacom wanted to charge me $60/month once I got rid of cable.

    I mediacom faster. Yes
Was it worth $35 more a month. No

    BTW-I got the game yesterday.

I would stick with the dsl if it weren't 1.5 cap here, with not much news forthcoming for the near term anyways on upgraded speed.

Yeah, I have that same dilemma I guess since I won't carry the cable, and don't have a phone line. I pay $37 now though for the privilege of not carrying the phone line, so an extra $23 would probably be worth the extra speed since I have to share with the wife.
