    Kent State attendance

Looks like Kent state counts a crowd like the Hawks do.

"an announced crowd of 15,808 at Dix Stadium Saturday night"

I did a quick capacity search, and found that Dix holds around 30,000.

What do you guys think, was it half full?

Not a chance. I would have guessed 5,000 max. At first I thought maybe they were playing the game at some local high school. That is a sad, sad, sad stadium for an FBS program to play in no matter what conference they are in. Seeing that made me appreciate JTS even more as well as the Cyclone fans who continually show up for games win or lose.

    Re: Kent State attendance

I'd maybe put it closer to 10,000-12,000, though it didn't feel like it.

    Re: Kent State attendance

It looked like a Hoover vs North football game.

I hope we never go on the road and play against a team like that again. The feeling appeared less than electric, but keep in mind they were not very good prior to losing their 2 best players, so a paltry crowd was to be expected.

We won, it was on the road...I'll take it.

I dunno I enjoy playing teams like that every once in a while.

Though that may have something to do with the incredible seats I get that I can't afford to get at JTS, and the fact that our crowd was a significant portion of the crowd and we were by far louder than the home team

I'd play 4 teams like that on the road if it meant 4 wins.

I assume you're in favor of leaving the Big 12?

    Re: Kent State attendance

One thing it might help, is I know CPR is recruiting OHIO a bit and this game likely aided in that venture. And I know it was scheduled much before CPR, but it worked out good for him.

While I agree it could serve a good purpose in recruiting I didn't like how we took our foot off of the gas at the end of the first half. We could have absolutely buried those guys. We let them bleed out the clock to end the first half and then in the second half we played "Cotton" ball and just sat on it. It's amazing when you look back at past performances when we lost because our guys couldn't put together an entire game of playing hard and executing. Then you look at last nights game when we basically shut it down with 5 minutes to go in the first half.

CPR said during his halftime interview that we needed to keep our foot on the gas pedal in the second half. Did we? I remember asking the question out loud if he saw the end of the first half.... we definitely didn't keep our foot on the gas pedal when we stopped their offense but didn't call a timeout to either get the ball back or to at least take a shot at blocking a punt.

Iowa State also announces ticket solds not butts in seats. Now if you are saying that after 15,808 tickets were sold, Kent State called the 30,000 seat stadium "sold out", then I would agree that they count crowds like the hawks do. Otherwise....eh.

    Re: Kent State attendance

I would have guessed it was around 10,000. When I was walking around the stadium I heard the Kent State radio announcers over the speakers say that Kent State should be playing better, especially in front of such a large crowd. So I guess it was above average for them.

The foot was not on the gas pedal last night, and that was one of my only complaints about the game. I smelled blood and wanted 50 points, which I think we could have gotten. That said, we did what we needed to do last night, and we got a lot of guys some PT. Especially some of the young guys on the d-line. I'm all for those guys getting their feet wet.

I agree. It was good to get those guys in the game. I was just a little unhappy with the offense in the second half. They seemed far more interested in killing the clock then they did in trying to punch Kent State in the mouth.

These are the games when we back off and then wonder why we have games like Kansas, UNLV, Colorado, etc.... from last year. The game is 4 qtrs, there is no mercy rule, so take the ball and shove it down their throats.

    Yup. That's what I thought.
