    Wes Eikmeier update

    http://www.fremontneb.com/articles/2...ts/sports2.txt

Eikmeier’s fourth quarter field goals came in transition off two blocked shots. He finished with a game-high 30 points, making 11-of-13 free throws and 10-of-17 shots from the field.
This against a box and one defense. The more I hear about this kid I can't help but imagine a taller, more athletic Jake Sullivan. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in a Cyclone uniform!

    Re: Wes Eikmeier update

i love the fact that he is scoring so much without dominating the ball. 10-17 field goals is a hell of a shooting performance. This guy seems to be the sharpshooter we've been missing since Sullivan's departure.

Does he move well without the ball? Jake was a deadly spot shooter, but wouldn't move without the ball to free himself up. He didn't really create that well off the dribble either, otherwise we may have been watching him in the NBA. Hoiberg wasn't as accurate a shooter, but he moved well and could free himself to get an open look.

Is he more like Fred or Jake?

I wouldn't worry about the details at this point. He shoots a high percentage. No matter how "good" he is now, there is going to be a learning curve when he gets here. If he is lacking an aspect of his game, the coaches will teach him. He seems like a solid recruit.

I agree, though I only ask because Jake didn't learn to move during his 4 years. Granted it was a different coaching staff.

    Re: Wes Eikmeier update

Wes runs the point for his team. He is said to have some pretty good handles, and is pretty fast. He can get by his guy, but this is also just going against small schools in Nebraska. I think all of us will be very happy when he gets on campus, but before that he needs to spend the next year plus eating. :) I heard the comparison to being a quicker Jake Sullivan! I think that is great company to be in. Wes is also a deadly free throw shooter like Jake was.

    Re: Wes Eikmeier update

Anyone realize that this box score has to be wrong somewhere:
"He finished with a game-high 30 points, making 11-of-13 free throws and 10-of-17 shots from the field."

30 minus 11 free throws is 19, and 10 fg's is at minimum 20 pts. So where's the typo? Just wondering...

I'm not a big fan of the Sullivan comparisons. Jake played big school basketball in Minneapolis / St. Paul against a host of PG's who went on to play major college basketball, including Khalid El-Amin (led UCONN to a championship) and some kid who went on to BC. I lived in the Twin Cities and still remember the night Jake went head-to-head with the BC recruit, torching him for 38!

On the other hand, Wes is playing against guys who are like I was in HS (probably not that stellar). He sounds like a fine player, but let's not get our expectations too high with unfair comparisons...
