I would think that the felony conviction took care of that.

The former Middletown High School football and track star pleaded guilty in July to felonious assault for shooting a 15-year-old boy twice in the face with a BB gun. Hunter fired the gun from a vehicle, with one projectile striking the victim's eyelid, according to the Enquirer.
That's just who I'd want wearing a Cyclone uniform

I'd say that the punishment sounds fair.

Didn't he prevent himself, especially if it was punishable with up to 8 years?

I'd say this is harsh but some situations require actions like this to get the individual to realize the fire he's playing with. We can't make assumptions without knowing the person and the situation.

Scholarships are not the only road to college, I say it's good punishment. Too many ****-ups in the world, start taking away things they love and maybe there will be less of them some day.

Yeah, I'm not really seeing the story here. The kid is obviously a felon. He'll be fine though. He'll go JUCO and probably end up at Ole Miss.

We wouldn't want him, but I wonder if he could technically play for us. It didn't look like we were playing an organized sport last saturday.

Re: HS student in Ohio barred from team sports

While I do not feel sorry for him, I have heard of many things like this that get the same punishment legally without the athletic punishment. Any time you fire a weapon at someone they could be blinded. I don't know what to think about this, but I do think this kid had already solidified only D-3 status anyway after what he did.

He's 19 years old. I think if he hadn't been offered already, it's not going to happen. Plus he shot a kid in the face. I don't care if it was a BB gun. I think the sentence was more than fair.

I think the punishment is a bit strict, but I guess you have to put your foot down eventually. I also have no idea what his background is. Has he been in trouble before?

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

"Obviously" a felon? He shot a bb gun...

He shot a bb gun from a moving car, and it happened to hit someone in the face. Nowhere does it say, despite "being hit in the eyelid" that there was any damage done to the eye.

    You're mistaken.

Stupidity isn't a felony. Perhaps they should have taken away sports (as if they wouldn't have been anyway) but a felony? For shooting a bb gun? Give the kid a misdemeanor, take away sports, and let him learn from the mistake. Don't brand him for the rest of his life. Good grief, he actually shot someone in the worst place possible--and did not put our an eye...

Save felonies for people who rob, or actually hurt people- intentionally. The "felons" who deserve it.
