    How about NIT?

    Let's say we beat Tech.

Let's say we beat Nebraska on the road.

Let's say we play a close game against a solid Kansas team.

We will be 16-14 just like last year even with Stinson and Blalock around.

Let's say we win the first round in big 12 tourney.

How about Greg's first year coaching resulting an NIT bid?

Could he have done any better?

    Re: How about NIT?

There is a chance, albeit slim of an NIT appearance and that would be a great accomplishment. I think at this point the chances are better we do not make it, but with last night's victory, we matched my pre-season predicted win total. If we win even one more I will consider it exceeding my expectations.

    Re: How about NIT?

If they win 2 of the last 3 and the opener in OKC, they will make the NIT. Seven conference wins and 17 overall is a nice resume. Probably won't get a home game since it's seeded now, but I'd love to see these guys keep playing.

    Re: How about NIT?

It depends on how the rest of the conference does. Right now, I think we only have 3 locks for the big dance in KU, A&M, and Texas. Even if we were to win those games you mentioned, I dont see us doing any better than 7th in the Big 12.

    Re: How about NIT?

The difference from last year is this team played better then people planned. The comm. should look at that as a positive

    Re: How about NIT?

We'll have to win 2 of 3 and a game or two in the Big 12 tourney. And I'd still hold my breath on a NIT bid.

    Re: How about NIT?

I think ISU has a serious chance to finish better than: Colorado, Baylor, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and perhaps Oklahoma since we won the head to head matchup.

Big 12 may only get 4 teams into the dance by the looks of the standings. Fairly pathetic.

    Re: How about NIT?

I think ISU has an easier schedule compared to the rest of the teams competing for a higher seed. Here's how they stand:
    5. Miz 6-7
    6. Tech 6-7
    7. OU 6-7
    8. OSU 5-7
    9. ISU 5-8
    10. NU 4-8
    11. BU 3-10
    12. CU 2-11

Very possible, we will see this:
    5. OSU 9-7 or 8-8
    6. Miz 8-8
    7. Tech 8-8
    8. OU 6-10 or 7-9
    9. ISU 6-10 or 7-9
    10. NU 5-11
    11. BU seed 11 or 12
    12. CU seed 11 or 12

I think 4 teams - KU, A&M, Texas and KSU or OS are going dancing this year. I think another 3 will go to NIT.

I know OSU has been really struggling, but their schedule is pretty favorable down the stretch, and they still have a half game lead on us in conference plus the head to head advantage.

The game in Lincoln will be big in determining if we finish ahead of them. If we beat them, we pretty much have that locked up.

You're right about Oklahoma. Their schedule to end the year is brutal. They have Texas and Kansas at home and then on the road in Manhattan.

We have a chance against Texas Tech, but that will be more difficult to accomplish, but their schedule is much more favorable. They have OSU next and then baylor before coming to Hilton. Whoever wins between Tech and OSU probably solidifies their spot ahead of us in conference, although not officially. It'd be pretty cool if we went into the last game against Texas Tech battling with them for a better seed in the tourney.

Worst case scenario, we're looking at 10th. Considering every publication had us picked 12th, that's not too shabby.

Quick quibble....Sporting News had us picked 10th.

This site has us nowhere near the NIT, but has Iowa as on of the last teams in and UNI on the NIT bubble.

    Re: How about NIT?

This guy also had ISU as an 8th seed as of his March 12th projection from last year. That one didn't pan out well for him. :(

How about 4 straight wins in OKC?

Hypothetical...we win the Big 12 tournament. What seed to we get?

    Re: How about NIT?

I think Nebraska has a much easier schedule than ISU down the stretch and that we have a better shot at Tech in Hilton than anybody on the road. Tech has traditionally been a horrible road team in this conference and that's a pretty long trip north for them in the last game of the season.

Not to mention that we should have one of the best crowds in ATTENDANCE at the game since it is on Saturday, Bobby Knight is in town, and the students should realize it is their LAST CHANCE to see a home basketball game until November!!!

(Let's hope we don't see a stupid snowstorm...)
