This reminds me of when LT was the best back ever. Or when Priest Holmes was redefining the position. Or when...

actually it has been heard of. Eric Dickerson had almost 4000 yards in his first two seasons.

AP is an extraordinary talent, and five years from now, we might be able to have this conversation, but until then it's impossible to call him the best of all time.

Jim Brown is the best back ever and Peterson clearly hasn't reached Brown's level of productivity and durability over a sustained period of time.

Re: Peterson the best back to ever play?

Talk about premature, jeez!! Wait until the guy plays at least a few seasons. Wait until he gets hit at the six yard line and carries three defenders, one of them a linebacker, into the end zone like Earl Campbell did. Wait until he pounds out hard yards for mostly mediocre teams, like Sweetness did. Wait 'til he grinds defenses to pulp like Jim Brown.

Playing in one of the weakest divisions in the NFL doesn't really amplify his accomplishments, either.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!!

Please. It's clear watching AP that he's at a level that those guys have never, and will likely, never reach.

That said, it's incredibly premature to put him ahead of guys like Jim Brown, Sweetness, Eric Dickerson, Emmit Smith, Barry Sanders, etc. However, if he stays healthy there's little doubt in my mind that he will be in that conversation when he retires.

Sentence 1: See his first season.

    Sentence 2: See last weekend.

He hasn't done these things as often as those guys (and I certainly hope he never plays on a mediocre team ever again), but he has done these things. I agree that it's premature to place him in that conversation, but the writing is on the wall.

Also, Edgerrin James and Earl Campbell both had more yards in their first two years than AP.

The tools are all there, but he's got a lot of building to do.

10ish seasons of prolific production without a derailment is hard to come by at any position these days. I mean, if he's not careful he could wind up on the cover of Madden next season....

Jim Brown and Barry Sanders are in a class alone.
