This from the Kent State website:

Kent State Returns Home To Host Iowa State Saturday Night
    Courtesy: Kent State Athletic Communications

    Game #3
Kent State (1-1) vs. Iowa State (1-1)
    Saturday, September 19, 2009 • 7:00 p.m. EST
Dix Stadium (25,000/FieldTurf) • Kent, Ohio
Radio: WNIR 100.1 FM (Tom Linder, Rob Polinsky & Ty Linder)
Television: None • Internet: ESPN360 (Dave Weekley & Jerod Cherry)

    The Opening Kick
Kent State returns home to host Iowa State Saturday as part of the Golden Flashes’ season-opening run of three of their first four games being played at Dix Stadium. Minnesota was the last BCS school to pay a visit to Kent — that coming in the 2006 season opener.

While this marks the seventh time that the Flashes and Cyclones have met (and the third year in a row), Saturday’s tussle will be just the second time the series has been contested at Dix. Iowa State’s only other trip to the Kent State campus came way back in 1971.

    Injury Front
While the Flashes received good news with the return of fifth-year senior nose tackle Sam Frist and junior wide receiver Leneric Muldrow for the game at Boston College, the prognosis is not so good on other fronts. Fifth-year senior running back Eugene Jarvis was lost for the season when he suffered a kidney injury against the Eagles, while sophomore quarterback Giorgio Morgan’s sprained left ankle may keep him out against Iowa State. (For more on Jarvis & Morgan, see page 4.)

    Flash Facts
    • Senior running back Eugene Jarvis’ quest for the Kent State career rushing record has been put on hold — 563 yards short of Astron Whatley’s mark of 3,989 yards set from 1994-97.
    • Battling through a sprained ankle that has hampered him for most of the first two games, sophomore quarterback Giorgio Morgan is 30-for-51 on the year (58.8 pct.) for 239 yards and three interceptions. The coaches will evaluate his status this week in regards to his availability for Saturday.
    • Freshman wide receiver Tyshon Goode is off to an impressive start, leading the Flashes with 10 catches for 110 yards.
    • With a pick at Boston College, junior free safety Brian Lainhart now has eight interceptions in the last nine games dating back to Oct. 4, 2008. His 10 career interceptions are tied for eighth in KSU annals.
    • Junior middle linebacker Cobrani Mixon continues to shine, leading the team with 20 tackles (14 solo) and 3.0 TFL. Impressively, he is also tied for the team lead with three pass break-ups.

    A Glance At The Series
Iowa State leads the all-time series by a 5-1 margin, including a 48-28 victory last year in Ames. Since the first meeting in Kent in 1971, each of the past five contests have been held in Ames, with the Golden Flashes prevailing, 23-14, in 2007.
    Year Site Result Score
    1971 Kent L 14-17
    1976 Ames L 7-47
    1981 Ames L 19-28
    1982 Ames L 7-44
    2007 Ames W 23-14
    2008 Ames L 28-48

    Television
None. However, the game can be seen live on ESPN360.com. Dave Weekley will call all the action while Jerod Cherry will serve as the color analyst. This marks the back end of two consecutive weeks in which the Flashes will appear on ESPN360.com.

    Radio
For the third straight year, the excitement of Golden Flashes football can be found on flagship station WNIR 100.1 FM in Northeast Ohio as part of the Kent State ISP Sports Network. Now in his second year in the play-by-play role (and his 11th as part of the broadcast), Tom Linder is joined this year by new color analyst Rob Polinsky, while Ty Linder continues his fine work on the sidelines.

    Web Site
Live audio for all Kent State football game broadcasts, live video of select games and live stats are available via the K-Zone on the official athletic department web site (www.kentstatesports.com).

    The Coaches
    • Doug Martin (Kentucky ‘85) is in his sixth season as a head coach, owning a 20-40 (.333) record at the helm of the Golden Flashes. He was promoted to head coach March 1, 2004, after serving as Kent State’s offensive coordinator in 2003.
    • Paul Rhoads (Missouri Western ‘89) is 1-1 in his first season as head coach at Iowa State. Rhoads took over the Cyclones program after serving as the defensive coordinator at Auburn in 2008. Born just 10 minutes from Jack Trice Stadium, he was the defensive coordinator at Pitt from 2000-07.

Re: Game preview from Kent State...

    Here's more if interested

    INSIDE SLANT
Kent State might want to rethink playing Boston College again. The Golden Flashes suffered a 21-0 loss to Boston College in 2008. This year, Kent State dropped a 34-7 decision at Boston College.

In two meetings, the Golden Flashes (1-1) scored seven points against Boston College. Kent State nearly suffered another shutout loss before reserve quarterback Spencer Keith tossed a four-yard touchdown pass with 2:15 left in regulation.

The Golden Flashes struggled for the second straight week on the offensive end. Kent State didn't cross midfield until early in the fourth quarter, finishing with 179 total yards.

Kent State tailback Eugene Jarvis had a frustrating game, ending with 17 yards on 10 rushes.

"Obviously we played a really good football team," said Kent State coach Doug Martin. "There's a reason Boston College has been in the (ACC) football championships the last couple of years. I think their program really speaks for itself."

Kent State's quarterbacks had a tough day, with Anthony Magazu and Giorgio Morgan limited due to injuries. Keith, a true freshman, made his collegiate debut, throwing an interception on his first pass attempt.

Boston College utilized four quarterbacks in the victory. They finished with 349 total yards and jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime.

    NOTES, QUOTES

--FS Brian Lainhart intercepted his 10th pass of his career, moving him into a tie for eighth place on Kent State's all-time list.

--QB Spencer Keith, a true freshman, played in his first college game, throwing an interception.

--LB Cobrani Mixon led Kent State in tackles for the second straight games. Mixon tallied eight tackles.

GAME BALL GOES TO: LB Cobrani Mixon -- Finished with a team-high eight tackles, including two stops for a loss. Mixon added two pass breakups.

KEEP AN EYE ON: KR Anthony Bowman -- Returned six kickoffs for 104 yards, with a long of 26 yards.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We played a really good team today and whoever is their strength coach is, he isn't paid enough. They are strong and a first class outfit." -- Kent State coach Doug Martin on Boston College.

    STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL

LOOKING GOOD: Kent State used some versatility in its offense, with 10 players catching a pass. Tyshon Goode led the Golden Flashes with four receptions. Eight different receivers caught two passes.

LB Cobrani Mixon was a big presence with eight tackles, including two tackles for a loss.

QB Spencer Keith bounced back from throwing an interception on his first collegiate pass to toss a touchdown late in the game to end KSU's scoring drought.

STILL NEEDS WORK: The Golden Flashes netted 60 yards rushing on 29 carries. Kent State must be able to run the football to be successful. Andre Flowers had a team-high 30 yards, while Eugene Jarvis finished with 17 yards after a big showing in the opener.

    ROSTER REPORT:

--QB Giorgio Morgan started the contest at Boston College. He was limited because an ankle injury.

--QB Anthony Magazu played limited minutes due to an arm injury.

--QB Spencer Keith saw his first college action, completing a touchdown pass late in the game.

Good bits of info on each team and their history with each other. Thanks for posting. Its time to move on and focus on this game entirely. We always say "move on" or "live in the present" to our players. Now it is the fans turn to rally and get behind this team. I for one am excited for Saturday and how our team plays......even if it is only on the radio!

"We embrace that challenge and what it presents to us. Im going to approach all 12 games this way: Were going to win them all. If we prepare and then go out and execute, were going to win all 12. Now how many are we going to end up with at the end of the year? I dont know, and youre right, I wont put a number on it."- Paul Rhoads on having the toughest schedule in the Big 12

Based on their offensive woes, it sounds like Wally has no reason not to throw the house at whatever QB is playing.

That will be lucky to have 10K inside. It wouldn't stun me if Cyclone fans out number Flash fans.

Texas played at Wyoming last week. 30,000 capacity. I wouldn't worry about it.

Looks like the safety will be a good test for Austen.

Had no idea Jarvis was out. We better win this one now. Really too bad to hear. Hope it's not too serious. I'm sure that kid had NFL hopes.
