    How Do They Count Attendance???

So with another thread about our attendance I got to thinking, how does ISU count there attendance? I noticed they don't scan the tickets as we enter so do they just use total tickets sold as their number or does somebody actually count the stubs they rip off and throw in those little boxes every game to get an actual count of the number of people that walk through the gate?

Tickets issued most likely, including any comp tickets or similar.

Tickets sold + all those they allow in free (band, teams\coaches, AD staff, security, etc). This is how we still have 40k plus attendance for games like last year vs missouri when the stadium is half empty, the season tickets are still counted.

I've heard somebody sits in the pressbox with binoculars and counts every single person in the stands. Then adds a couple thousand for the people he can't see on the concourse. That is why we don't state the attendance until later in the game, because we need to give him at least the first half to count the people..

He must of been working overtime last Saturday because I don't remember hearing the attendance announced.

yeah, some games he gets behind, so they can't announce it until after the game in the paper or in the stats. I think he said it took so long because people kept moving and he didn't want to count them twice.

Hopefully the guy with the binoculars doesn't count attendance during the 3rd quarter since nobody is back in there seats for it.

That's true.. But, I think he actually takes a break and goes out to the lots and tailgates for that quarter as well.

The stadium wasn't half empty in the first half for that game. It was full (at least the seats were, anyways).

Not from what i remember. I also remember having a parking pass in one of the paved lots ringing the stadium and the lots being mostly empty. I also remember having big gaps in seats all around me.

You need some of those toe-warmers - that's what I used and even tho there was nobody else in my row or in front or behind me to block the wind, I stayed fairly warm...
