    "on call"

    Anyone else have a job where they are on-call 24-7/365? I rarely get a call but my god when I get one I get a thousand.

    I knew it was going to be a bad day when I started getting messages at 6pm and a few hours later I looked at my inbox and I had 2,000 emails. I now have 8,000 emails and all my systems are working fine.

    Maybe I'm just crabby from working all day/night/day.

    I'll trade you Crackberry's, my oncall (with the same company) was so important that no one thought to tell me all my systems were offline. Personally, I was thankfully my 5 pages (errors caused by users that cant follow simple instructions) an hour suddenly stopped..

    Currently I am on a rotating "on call" schedule. Once every 4 weeks. That doesn't mean they won't call though. A lot of times one of the other on calls won't know what to do and will call me instead of wasting time trying to figure something out that I can tell them what's wrong in a matter of minutes.
    Also, some people never even check to see who is on call and just call me. Lately I have not had many calls at all. (which means I probably just gave myself the kiss of death)

    Speaking of "on call", I've had a few situations where I've needed service from companies that were allegedly 24/7, and each time it took phone calls to about 10 different places to get someone to actually come out.

    I am on call 24/7-365. I generally don't have any problems with my network. I do remember spending a Christmas day a couple of years ago on the phone with the Senior Partner at my former firm working on his wireless connection while he was on the beach on Hawaii. I could hear the waves on the phone. I was in central Iowa freezing while he was living it up on the beach.
