    Re: car tires

Go to tire rack .com Tons of options... order online and save about 40.00 per tire on a set that runs normally 600.00. They charge freight but you still save a ton. They also will let you know where to take it in your area for mounting and balancing.

Tirerack.com and then take them to wal-mart and they will put them on for $50

Costco's prices are very close to tirerack if you are a member.

Sam's Club is also worth a check if you're a member there. When I got tires there last time, they had free road hazard coverage as well as cheapest price. CostCo is now offering the same.

    Re: car tires

I have had good luck with tires at Sam's Club. I ran over a piece of farm equipment hidden in some weeds with my dad's pickup. It ruined one of the tires and they covered it under their road hazard protection (they didn't ask what happened and I didn't say). I recommend Michelin tires. They may be a bit more expensive, but they last forever and are great in many conditions if you buy the normal tread (not some fancy Aquatread type tire or something).

I replaced the poor Bridgestones tires on my Camry at 29,000....went with the Michelin - Pilot® Exalto® A/S at Costco. Good tire.

    Why not buy local?

I tried to work with many local tire shops and they are always trying to shove off their inventory on me and have poor selection... Also they are inflexible on price.

    Re: car tires

The new Maxima has been a real pain to fit with shoes. (we're high mileage drivers and have 'the opportunity' to think about tires alot on our three vehicles) We do research online with Tirerack, and then work with Trickles in Ames. They're competitively priced, offer fabulous service, and even though we do a lot of our own research, we talk things through with Chris at Trickles, and invariably, he's always got more info for us to consider about the pros/cons of what we're looking at.

Might be a drive for you, but after the general rodeo we've experienced at chain stores, etc., it's been very worth it for us.

    Re: car tires

Big O has had the best prices of the places I have called. They also offer great service. I'm only familiar with the location in Urbandale.

They matched Tirerack's price on the tire and you get the repair, rotation and balance service included.

I just bought yet another set of Kumho Ecsta ASX all season ultra high performance tires.

    Re: car tires

Good tires are widely avilable now. When radial first came out, and for weveral years thereafter, there was a big difference between the best and worst tires on the market. Now, most all tires are very good. IMO Bridgestone makes the very best engineered passenger car tires. Goodyear and MIchelin make fine tires as well. Cooper is the best bang for your buck.
