Chizik's prediction looks a little bit off

Funny stuff from Gene. I wonder what he defines as "a lot of games":

Last year, the Cyclones opened the season with victories over Football Championship Subdivision opponent South Dakota State and Kent State, but then lost their last 10 games to finish 2-10. "I have no question in my mind that we were definitely on the right track," Chizik said. "Last year, we played with a brand-new quarterback and 11 true freshmen. We were starting a bunch of them. That's hard to do in that league. There's no question we were going to win a lot of games in Years 3 and 4, which was our plan all along. We did it right from the time we walked in the door to the time we left. There's no doubt that place is better off now than from when we inherited it."

Mark Schlabach: Gene Chizik ready to turn the Auburn Tigers around - ESPN

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

How many games are left on the schedule this season?

Just like most, I think Chizik is a dope.....but we're only 2 games in so far this year.

Who knows, but he's off to a decent enough start at Auburn.

Good to see you've given up hope after the second game Monty. Your undying support for the Cyclones is unmatched.

Re: Chizik's prediction looks a little bit off

It would have been interesting to see what Chizdick would have done with coordinators that were anything more then his buddies. At Auburn he hired him a supporting cast that very well could make him look like a hero.

Given the luck of ISU fans, I would expect nothing else.

Re: Chizik's prediction looks a little bit off

If Gene wins 10 games this year he should be Coach of the year - I predict Auburn will come crashing back down to Earth when they play West Virginia this week.
    Auburns remaining schedule:
West Virginia, Ball St., @ Tenn, @ Arkansas, Kentucky, @ LSU, Ole Miss, Furman, @ Georgia, Alabama. Good Luck, Coach!

If auburn is really good, his offensive coordinator, Gus Mazalahn?, will be a candidate for a head coaching job. Just my thought.

Re: Chizik's prediction looks a little bit off

If Auburn beats West Virginia, look for them to start 6-1 or so and be in the top 15, but I expect they will crash back down to earth losing three or four of their last five games.

The question I have is how much of their success so far(and let's be honest, it's against two teams that probably aren't going to bowls) is due to Chizik and how much of it is due to his assistants? And why didn't he hire a better staff when he was at Iowa State and was given a bigger budget than McCarney was given? Ted Roof was at Minnesota last year. Gus Malzhan was at Tulsa. He could have gotten guys like that but instead chose to hire his old buddies. Heck, San Diego State this year has former Ball State HC Brady Hoke as their HC, former Auburn OC Al Borges as their OC, and former New Mexico HC Rocky Long as their DC. That's a MUCH stronger staff than we had last year.

The truth is that the coordinators from last year should have been position coaches. Chizik had the right idea when he demoted them as was going after better qualified coordinators, but his initial mistake really put us behind and added a couple years to the rebuilding process. Then he made himself look even worse by leaving in the midst of all the chaos. Had he hired the right guys in the first place and took us to a bowl or two, I wouldn't have been so upset, but the way things went down he looks like an incompetent moron who used ISU as a training ground and got lucky with an offer from Auburn.

No, I have zero respect for anything he did. He lied to those recruits and did a **** ******* poor job of coaching those recruits. Most those recruits will tell you he was an *******. All my respect goes to CPR for keeping the recruits here.

    Good recruits huh?

Last nite PR was asked if there was a lot of talent at isu now because of cheezedip and he said no...

PR's quote was something like this...we're trying to improve with the talent we have!!!!

Not exactly a glowing endorsement of cheezedip now is it!!!!!
