Our offense looks exactly the same as last year to me

I know I'm not a coach but I do watch a lot of football. Maybe those more educated than me can answer a simple question for me. How is what we have ran this season on offense differ than what McFarland had us running last season, besides the constant no huddle? What I mean is the formations, play calling, etc. look very similar to last season to me.

Re: Our offense looks exactly the same as last year to me

Actually I think it has looked less imaginative than last year's offense thus far... less variety of plays and formations. I am hoping that is just because it is our first year running the O and we are keeping it simple early in the year.

Would like to see a bigger variety of running plays and some crossing patterns and mid-range passes, and I would like to see us get the tight end more involved (I think TE is probably our strongest position on offense).

Re: Our offense looks exactly the same as last year to me

This offense looks like a first year of implementation of offense to me. We have probably seen less than half of the playbook over these last two games.

Fact is the playbook will not open up until plays can be executed better in practice and in the game. McFarland did the same thing in 2007 and we made a huge jump in execution from 2007 to 2008.

I expect nothing but the same as the season progresses.

Actually I think what we see this year is more of what I thought I would have seen last year. More spread with QB reads. The problem is we do a lot of QB reads.

Isn't the spead offense itself really centered around quarterback reads?

Last year, our passing was good. Arnaud put up some serious yards. So far this year, I haven't seen anything that says our passing attack is better. Running seems a bit better. Overall, not an improvement on the offensive side. That said, it is too early to make judgements about the overall plan.

I would say the biggest improvement from last year to this year is our offensive line. Looks quite a bit better.

I think Arob is running better too.

WRs look worse and QB play has been worse.

It looks like to me that this staff really doesn't know what they want to do. They run the option read..straight options...designed QB running plays and traditional running plays with AR. What worked the best was giving the ball to AR and why they abandoned it for the most part is confusing.

Give AA some time. He seems like a bright kid and almost like he is just trying to do way to much.

This week, we need to see A Rob touch the ball a lot. Our O line should dominate this game. We do not need to see 40 or 50 points but rather long, sustained drives. Simplify the offense and other aspects will follow suit.

I don't know - at least we have reduced the amount of bubble screens from last year. It seems that we ran that 2 out of the four downs we got each series.

Otherwise, the results are the same

I'm still completely shocked by our inability to get the ball to Darks and Sedrick Johnson.

Re: Our offense looks exactly the same as last year to me

our qbs need to learn how to throw touch 5-8 yds passes rather than trying to throw the ball like a hundred mile per hour baseball pitches down the field.. the receivers need to learn how to run precision routes and the qbs need to practice on their timing on getting the ball to the receivers on short disciplined passes.
the receivers need to get some tapes of michael crabtree that was one of mike leach's star receivers at texas tech and film of dez bryant at okie state so they can learn how yards after the catch is performed. it seemed like MONEY when he caught a couple of balls was running in circles after completing a couple of nice catches in traffic..he needs to put that energy into long distance yards after the catch.

i have watched 2 scrimmages & 2 games and it is the same offense....only less effective. the no huddle is a joke.....the clock was consistently down to 7 or 8 seconds numerous times on sat. An NDSU was not disturbed by it. GIVE IT UP!
