    Ross Marsden's Number

Was Ross coaxed into taking the number 40 because of the Chris Street tradition, or did he want that number and it just worked out that he was from Iowa? Or did he want that number because of the tradition? Anybod in the know?

I didn't know ISU honored Chris Street by wearing his number. Huh.

    Re: Ross Marsden's Number

Yeah, every year since Chris Street died, ISU has had an Iowa-native wear #40 in honor of him. Classy move, if you ask me. I don't know about Marsden's situation, but I'd guess that it (the Street tradition) had something to do with it...

    Re: Ross Marsden's Number

Morgan Wheat was the first to wear it in 1993, then Fred Hoiberg in 1994, Loren Meyer in 1995, Klay Edwards from 1996-1999, Brad Davis from 2000-2002, Dave Braet from 2003-2005 and Ross Marsden this year....

I think it's really cool that they have had an Iowa person wear that jersey every year...

    Re: Ross Marsden's Number

also i think he wore it in high school if i remember right.. so it worked out pretty well.. but i also believe that is right because i remember a story about that..

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: Ross Marsden's Number

i thought all of the major Iowa school said that an Iowa born player would wear the number 40 after Streets death. I thought i heard that next year Iowa will have no Iowa born players, so what will they do?!? I doubt they care, theyre too worried about their flavor of scones, overpaid coaches, and the rainbow stickers falling off the back of their electric cars.

    Re: Ross Marsden's Number

ISU is the only school that I know of that does that. I think it is very classy, and honors a great kid who was lost too soon. His loss provides a lot of perspective on what is important and what isn't.

    Re: Ross Marsden's Number

Hoiberg actually changed from #32 to #40 to personally honor Chris Street
