Staiger Leads German National Team In Loss To F.Y.R. Macedonia

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland- Iowa State junior guard Lucca Staiger led Germany in its 86-75 loss to F.Y.R. of Macedonia in the qualifying round of the 2009 European Championships this afternoon.
Staiger, a native of Blaustein, Germany, was the top scorer for the German squad, recording 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor, including a 4-of-6 effort from downtown. He also had three rebounds in the loss.
Germany must defeat Croatia on Tuesday (Sept. 15) to make the final eight and remain alive in the tournament. The game will tip at 2 p.m. CST.
Staiger averaged 8.2 points and led the Cyclones in 3-pointers in 2008-09 with 74.
