Is this the year the BCS implodes?

With Boise St. and BYU winning last week and tOSU looking like they may finally beat USC along with Michigan knocking off N.D. - could there be a team from a non-BCS conference that could play for the title this year? If this were to happen, would this be the turn around that college football needs?

Its not a given that BYU wins the Mountain West. To do so they will likely have to defeat Utah in November.

Re: Is this the year the BCS implodes?

The title will likely be Florida vs. Texas, as everyone is predicting right now. Boise St. will not be a BCS-buster. They may make a BCS Bowl as an at-large team, but they won't get to the title game...

True, but the toughest game Boise St. has left is @ Fresno St. and if they win that they seem to be the only team other than Florida that's a lock to win-out the rest of the year.

So you believe that both Florida and Texas will be undefeated during the regular season and win their conference Championship game?

12-0 Boise State != BCS National Championship selection

Re: Is this the year the BCS implodes?

I think they are safe this year. Florida won't have more than 1 loss, so they'll be in the title game. The pollsters love them. As far as the other team goes, the winner of tonight's USC/Ohio State game has a clear path to the title game. Texas will still be around, unless they lose to Oklahoma, in which case, the Sooners will be in the mix.

Basically what I am saying is that there will be plenty of power conference teams around with 1 loss or less at the end of the season, and they will easily get the nod over Boise St, BYU, Utah, etc.

I do. The only team I see giving Texas a run for its money is Okie St, but they got beat today as well.

As for Florida, I just feel that when you return all 11 starters from a great defense, your team doesn't get any worse. And I don't see anyone in their conference challenging them for the title. If they do lose one, i still think the voters will put them in the title game over an undefeated BYU/Boise St./Utah. I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying that's what would likely happen.

Maybe. OSU still has some problems, and the PAC 10 is pretty deep this year. If any team has the inside edge, it's probably Texas, as they won't have any challengers if they can beat Oklahoma.

USC will probably lose to some weak team, and OSU has some tough games later in the year.

But that's the problem - there could be a Non-BCS team that goes undefeated and is left out of the title game while a team with 1 loss could play in their place.

That's because most voters will feel that a 1-loss Florida team is still better than an undefeated BYU/Boise St./Utah.

If the 2nd best BCS team in the country has 2 losses or more, I have no problem with an undefeated BYU/Boise taking the 2nd spot in the championship game.

don't get me wrong, it's not a cakewalk by any stretch, but the lack of a conference championship game makes it that much easier for them. That's an additional game against a guaranteed quality opponent. I don't mean that as a slight against the Pac 10 or Big 10, just stating that playing 13 games is harder than playing 12.

that's happened before. Last year, in fact. The BCS didn't implode.
