why officials over 60 shouldn't official

is it just me or do the officials in college football, particularly the iowa-isu game, fail to make consistent penalty calls? horrible vision of what is going on in the field is what leads iowa state into the hole that they are in the first half. i'm not saying that isu didn't commit those penalties, but iowa has committed the same number of penalties and only been called for half of them. the slowness of the elderly officials leads to bad calls, and it is time for a restriction on age in college football officiating.

Is this your personal, official excuse?

Honestly the only thing I've seen them miss is the push off(which admittedly is big), overall its just been ISU shooting themselves in the foot.

Well the guy doesn't know how to run the damn mic thing. Cant really use this as an excuse. They've definitely been throwin the flag so they're seeing something.

And I really hate that elderly official for that on-side kick.

Re: why officials over 60 shouldn't official

arnaud apparently refuses to check off receivers. i haven't seen him check off to his 2nd or 3rd or 4th receiver yet this season. that has killed this offense this game. the problem i have is that the officials are not paying attention equally to every single play. they seem to get caught up in the action. the false start calls have been called easily, but that is just standing there. the motion penalties have been rediculous. no penalty on kicker interference against iowa even though that was clearly a penalty. no offensive pass interference on the touchdown for iowa which was clearly a push off. all i'm saying is that people over a certain age do not have the vision that people in their 30's or 40's do. if this game was officiated by reasonably aged persons, this game would likely be 6-3 at the half. still for iowa because of the mistakes of isu, but a lot closer than it is.

Exactly. I saw him fumbling for his mic and then all of a sudden decided to try for an onside kick at a questionable time in the game. If we lose, I'd say we should push for euthanasia.

YOu need to step back from the keyboard. Starting to sound like a hawk fan. Roughing would have been a ticky-tack call since he barely brushed Brantner. Push off is a no call 9 times out of 10.

Re: why officials over 60 shouldn't official

exaggeration is nothing more than what people perceive of it. the roughing call would have called 9 out of 10 times in any other game. the push off is pretty much the only way a receiver can be called for offensive interference. and it wasn't called. you say i am sounding like a hawk fan? bad playing should not be rewarded by bad play calling. there is a purpose of officiating, to keep teams honest in the way they play football. there is clearly a difference between what these officials see as honest and what is truly going on in the field. i see other games where a punter gets tapped on the foot by a defender and a roughing call is called immediately. bad play should not be negated by lack of vision by the officiating crew.

I wondered what ISU fans thought of that attempted onside kick. Personally I thought it was an unnecessary risk at that time of the game. Iowa wasn't moving the ball at all and then they just gift wrapped that great field position for them.

you mean the roughing call where the punter wasn't even touched by an Iowa player?

It was a great acting job by Brandtner; if he was touched at all it was just a grazing.

The only no-call that you could complain about really was the push-off by DJK. However, it wasn't THAT big of a push-off, although it was the reason he made the catch, so it should have been a penalty nonetheless.

Re: why officials over 60 shouldn't official

when the receiver puts both hands on the defenders clear face visor and pushes off, THAT should be called.

Having said that, 10 push off calls in our favor could not have saved our bacon today. Water was coming in way faster than anyone could bail.
