Ah to Blitz or not to Blitz...

that is the question or do we run more nickel and bring Benton in?

My take all I want to see for the 1st couple of series is everything and the kitchen sink thrown at the hawks. Big Bulaga out, but still some of the same faces in different places, the crowd is going to be "Jacked" up. Blitz baby all day long!

GO STATE!!! Less than 15 hours til kickoff and 9 hours til the tailgates open!

i say we blitz hard early back off for a while then hit them again out of no where.. as far as nickel or 4-3 we will have to mix it up alot i think.. i would love to see some more cb blitzes though

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

I agree, we need to be aggressive and opportunistic, but we also don't want to let Iowa beat us on a big play early. Execution!

No on Blitz. Their Tight Ends and Recievers will make us pay me things.

All I can picture is our new LB Lattimore "Place at the Table!" Putting the paint on listening to "The Who" Teenage Wasteland intro...execution...the death of the hawks...I like it.

As for the TE, what about more of a 4-2-5 Benton covering T.M?

Got to believe we're blitzing hard. Stanzi looks to get rattled with adversity - gets happy feet, misfires and gets sacked. That's what happened in the 1st half last week. I hope our d-line can match UNI's pressure.

Blitz a lot. UNI made Stanzi look like Jake Christensen every time they got even a little bit of pressure on him.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

Re: Ah to Blitz or not to Blitz...

The way Stanzi gets the deer in the headlights syndrome under pressure, there is no way ISU should not throw some blitzes at Iowa. Maybe a safety blitz, or roll the safties up on the TEs and send a LBer. Can't let the TE and passes out of the backfield burn ISU, but Stanzi looked like a junior high QB for large parts of the UNI game, when they were getting pressure on him.

Stanzi is more mobile than I like to give him credit for. Bottom line is if we blitz, we need to get to Stanzi. If we don't, we'll get burned.

Yup. I thought that was one of his problems last week. He sat in the pocket too long. I bet they roll him out more in this game. He's got good legs.

Re: Ah to Blitz or not to Blitz...

After watching last weeks game and after hearing confirmation that Bulaga is out...BLITZ ALL DAY LONG. Bring the heat every single play. "Oh but that leaves tight ends and receivers open". Cant pass to anyone when youre laying face up on the turf. The number one way we can make up for the lack of a good defensive line is to blitz, blitz, blitz. I would be incredibly surprised if we didnt bring the house. Our defense looked vanilla last weekend and that was for a reason.

Re: Ah to Blitz or not to Blitz...

I think that they move Dace Richardson to LT, so iowa isn't going to be that week at that position. Where we have a chance to get to the QB is Frere and Alburtis inside. But I also think that their depleted running game will allow us to play a lot more nickel with Benton. I expect Benton to cover Moeaki and also blitz quite a bit. Benton is a tall CB, so height shouldn't be an issue in covering Moeaki.
