    Hypothetical

If Phillip Bates would have transferred to UNI, would he be their starter this year?

    Re: Hypothetical

No way, Grace would have started the remainder of last year and he is a very solid QB. Bates went to the right place at Ohio. Is he playing this year?

No, he would have transferred after the 4th week.

I don't think so, I didn't see his name in the box score week 1.

Ohio is D-1A, wouldn't he have to sit out this year?

    Re: Hypothetical

If Bates was willing to change positions he could definitely be starting for UNI at WR.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

    Re: Hypothetical

I think you can go to 1-AA and play right away.

I didn't know, I was honestly asking... but I guess he would have to since he officially transferred at semester. You're probably right. It will be next season when we next see Bates on the field.

Ohio is Div I (not I-AA). Bates has to sit out a year. He is eligible in 2010 and has two seasons left.

    Re: Hypothetical

That's a really good question......Pat Grace (SR) has a lot of experience and had a great day overall (career high I think) against Iowa - he put his team in a position to win at least. Bates is probably the better athlete, but Grace is a tough/big boy @ 240 lbs.

Personally, I think Bates should have embraced the reciever/athlete role like Money has done. Look at the play he made for us against Iowa 2 years ago....we wouldn't have WON without that catch. Hopefully Money comes through with a catch like that this year!!

    I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROWWWWWW!!!!!.....LOUD NOISES!!!!!!!!!!.....GO STATE!!!!!!

Not only that Monty, but, Ohio has two senior qb's so Bates is the lone upperclassman so next year, the seniors are gone, Bates has been in the system for a year and will be the starter for 2010.

    Re: Hypothetical

Grace might not be athletically better, but I think he is a better QB without a doubt.

Whatever happened to all the hype that Boo Jackson brought with him? I don't hear too much about him anymore.
