    Tigerhawk

    Iowa fans...honest question:

Why is the Hawkeye logo called a tigerhawk?

Not flaming and not looking to get into a logo debate; I just don't understand.

I get the hawk part, but not the tiger part.

Forgive me if this is common knowledge or has been discussed elsewhere.

    Re: Tigerhawk

Why does Agent Zed call Agent J "Tiger" throughout Men In Black? I don't know the answer to that one, either...

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

That crossed my mind, but I've never seen a black and gold tiger.

I think it's the same reason they do the GATOR CHOMP. I hate that. Even my diehard hawkeye fan boss thinks it's dumb.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

I figured that would come up, but that actually has an explanation.

I wonder if there's a similar explanation for the tigerhawk.

This annoys me more than anything. It came from when Matt Roth sacked Chris Leak when we played Florida. He turned to the Florida bench and did the Gator Chomp towards them. Apparently some fans thought it was cute and started doing it.

Every time I'm at a game and somebody near me does that, I remind them that we're not Florida...

Same reason Iowa has a hawk as a mascot as opposed to an indian or a big floating eye (this would be a much better mascot)

The Gator Chomp has been done on 3rd downs in Kinnick since before 2003.

The best I can come up with is that people started doing what Notre Dame does when they get a 3rd down stop and play the Imperial March, and it evolved into the gator chomp.
