    Vikings release Wade

The Vikings have released Bobby Wade, their leading receiver the last two years, and signed Greg Lewis, who was waived by New England. Don't understand this at all. Thoughts?

From a team that signed Brett Favre, who knows.
It's like Childress is trying to build a team of all the dudes he used to coach.

Two words....Percy Harvin! Wade is limited to being a slot receiver. Harvin is a bigger threat in the slot as well as providing other ways to attack the defense. Wade would have seen very little action this year.

    Re: Vikings release Wade

It's a little shocking considering he just restructured his contract last week. However, in the grand scheme of things, there probably isn't room for him. Where are his touches going to come from? Berrian is the number 1, and the team is very high on Rice because of his body type and potential. So, there are your starters. When they bring in a 3rd guy, it's going to be Harvin. So basically it's Wade competing against Raynaud and Johnson (who both also return kicks/punts) for that 4th spot. Even though Wade's salary this year is only 1.5 mil, I would guess that both of the previously mentioned guys are less than that as well as Greg Lewis. my opinion is that this was likely a business move, made because they couldn't justify his contract with the limited amount of playing time he would see.

He'd still have been a good 4th wideout.... dumb move.

meh, it's debatable. Regardless, nobody is going to lose much sleep over the loss of your number 4 wideout.

I wish we would've kept him for depth. How confident are they that Rice will actually produce this year?

I really liked Wade. Rice has been a bust.

Another move for the Minnesota Eagles! Childress had been laying off the former Eagles for awhile, but I see he's back at it...

Raynaud and Johnson both are better 4th WR options. Wade is only an option for the slot which is now in better hands with Harvin.

    Re: Vikings release Wade

ESPN's NFC North beatwriter / blogger (former Star-Tribune employee) had an article yesterday citing Bobby Wade as his reason for picking the Viking WR's as the "deepest unit" in the NFC North. It was funny then and it's funnier now...

Harvin has not played a down in the NFL. Not quite sure why Viking fans think he is the second coming.
