Also, Chris Young, the one Rivals commit that has no stars, is showing up as a 3 star on the Scout site. Looks like wemay be coming through with some solid athletes so far. Let's add some beef for the lines soon.

The Rivals high school guy speaks very highly of Chris Young. Had nothing but good things to say and said we got a great player

I suspect that the reason that Young in't yet rated is that they went through and "starred" the Cali jucos, and haven't yet the lower Texas ones.

Not sure that I'd call rangy defensive ends "beef", but I'd go for some linebackers, too.

We're in on three DE's that I really want to commit. Wayne Dorsey, Tim Jackson, and Mike Douglas. Wayne Dorsey especially. He won't be an easy pickup, but we were in on him early so hopefully that means something to him.

Wow they must have literally just updated that within the last few minutes. I just checked Wayne Dorsey's profile and he's listed as a 4* as well. He was a 3* earlier this morning.

I can't help but notice that several other potential recruits, including two corners, a safety, an outside linebacker and a defensive tackle are also now rated four stars on Rivals.

    Jimmie Anderson - Yahoo! Sports
    Dominique Vinson - Yahoo! Sports
    Damien Jackson - Yahoo! Sports
    Derek Earls - Yahoo! Sports
    Wayne Dorsey - Yahoo! Sports
    David Mahoney - Yahoo! Sports

I understand that CPR has spoken of taking "short cuts" in recruiting to get the team ready to face a challenging '10 schedule, these guys would seem to hit a lot of the high spots. Me likey.

Earls would fit with the two late signing juco (and the high school recruits), Jackson and Givens would upgrade safety play immensely, Mahoney and Dorsey would be an immense upgrade for the DL--and corners, especially in this conference, are always an invaluable commodity...

Oh yeah, Roszell Gayden, who would probably allow an awful lot of flexibility on the offensive side of the ball next season, is also now a four star. Roszell Gayden - Yahoo! Sports

You know what this says to me more than anything is not the fact that we have a potential of landing quite a few 4 star recruits but the fact that CPR and staff have pinpointed these kids prior to them acquiring the 4* label. That is EXACTLY what a school such as Iowa State needs to do in order to be successful (that and developing the players).
If the staff can do this consistently and find and acquire commitments from these kids before they blow up (see Joshua Shaw) they will turn things around quite quickly.

I would like be able to put T.J. McCullough in that category once signing day is over.

We really need to land a few of these juco defensive players. We are losing a lot of seniors on that side of the ball, and filling in some LBs and DL would be HUGE.

I'd say Gayden's top 3 right now are Ole Miss, Iowa State, and Cal...in no particular order. Is it just me or does it seem we're in a lot of recruiting battles with Ole Miss lately?
