    Attention Seattleites

    Residents of Seattle,

I'm looking at a job in Seattle, as an engineer for an aerospace company. I was wondering if anyone in a similar position could offer any input as to an appropriate salary. I have been looking around the internet and haven't been able to find the info myself. I've been out of school and working full-time as an engineer in IA for about 3 years. I know that housing is a lot more expensive in Seattle than anywhere in IA - how does the rest of the cost of living equation compare? Please either reply here or pm me. Thanks for your help.

    Re: Attention Seattleites

I have friends in the aerospace industry in Seattle and they started out of college in the $57-59K range. With 3 years experience, I'd look for your salary to be north of $60K anyway, maybe more.

Watched HG tonight for Seattle. You can buy a houseboat for $140k and pay $500 month to live in 550 sf space.

    Re: Attention Seattleites

I'm a civil engineer out here, coming up on my 3rd year and in the mid $50K range. I would guess aero pays a little more than civil, but I'm also working for a company based out of Des Moines and I would be making the same amount of money if I lived in Iowa...but with a lower cost of living! When I was first considering moving here, I found the head-to-head city comparisons on monster.com helpful, fyi.

Anyways, if you do come to Seattle, welcome! We have an alumni club out here, we mainly get together to watch ISU football games in the fall but have been expanding our activity horizon lately. Make sure to PM me if you come out and are interested! There are several people in our group that work at Boeing, not sure if that is your "aerospace company".

    Re: Attention Seattleites

Thanks guys. Any more input would be helpful. FYI the company isn't Boeing. It's a smaller company based out of Sacramento with operations in Redmond WA; not sure how big it is nationwide, but the Redmond location has about 30 employees. Mostly working with small rocket engines, stuff you'd find on satellites - not the big shuttle engines. Last night I was invited out for an on-site interview, so I guess I'll get a better chance to see what it's all about. Thanks again guys.

    Re: Attention Seattleites

Well, I've got an interview out there late next week. It looks like I'll have a couple of free afternoons - anything I should make sure to see or do while I'm there? I'll be staying at the Baymont Inn in Kirkland, which I believe is pretty central to the entire metro area.

I'm going to be out there Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning. Anything I should make sure to see while I'm there?

    Thanks.
