    The quiet storm

This week seems to be a bit off from previous years leading up to this InState Rivalry.

I am not getting 10-15 txt messages each day talking about the *** kicking.

I am not getting the 2-3 phone calls each day talking about the *** kicking.

I am not getting the 2-3 face to face conversations each day talking about the *** kicking.

It seems many have cooled off and have learned to wait for the clock to reach 00:00..... Honestly I am enjoying it. I know there will be smack talk up to the kick off and through the game, but the level or frequency seems WAY off this year. I welcome it.

Besides it is sooooooooooo much better to lay the smack down when your team has the higher score when the game is over.... Are people respecting the rivalry or too scared to eat crow after sticking their neck out so far? Or something else?

    This year certainly feels different.

That happens when one team comes off a 2-10 season and the other almost loses to a I-AA opponent.

Personally, the reason I am not getting in to it too much with my Hawk co-workers is because of 2007. We started 0-2 with an actual loss to UNI then turned around and beat the Hawks.

Nothing stopping them from doing it to us this weekend and deep down most of us know it.

I'm deep in enemy territory and things are quiet ... almost too quiet.

Now matter what tth tells you on this board, the hawks are nervous as **** after that 1 pt blowout.

A hawk homer I know was talking rushing stats immediately after our win...he's tempered his moronic behavior since then!

They, hIowa fans, will never shut up though, I guess that can be considered Hayden's great gift to those guys...that and the ANF sticker on the helmets, pretty good propoganda for a non ag based school don't ya think.

Oh and not that I don't appreciate what coach Mac did for the us but thank god we don't have to see that stupid Fry coaching tree sheeeit anymore during the game (hope I didn't speak too soon).

We finally have one of our own at the head of the program, and that really makes me proud!

Most Hawk fans I know have been nervous as **** about this game for the past few weeks. Beating UNI by one doesn't change that. When you have only beaten an opponent in their home stadium once in the last 10 years it has a tendancy to make any fanbse nervous, no matter how good your team is.

I bet Calloway is not so tough without the comfort of his moped.

    Re: The quiet storm

I don't think anyone really knows what to expect.

ISU wasn't exactly impressive in our one game. Much of that was by design, but it wasn't the rousing performance many had hoped.

iowa fans are a little unsettled after the close game against UNI. I think many ISU fans are a bit worried from the standpoint that for the first time, iowa isn't walking into this game overly confident on the heels of a 50pt blowout win and won't be taking the Clones for granted.

I for one never expected them to do so even before the UNI game - given we knocked them off the last two trips to Ames - and kf won't let his team forget it. The "superbowl" talk is dead. This game may in fact mean more to iowa this time around.

Couple hawk friends I've talked to are extremely cautious in talking about the game. There's been NO banter at all.

Personally - I'm enjoying it. Thought it's been a bit much in recent years. As for the game - I'm worried as **** too. Feel like we might have what it takes to outscore iowa. Problem is can we stop them enough? I've never been that impressed with Stazi as a QB. The UNI game reinforced that a bit. However with that o-line, you or I could stand back there and pick apart a D. You HAVE to get pressure against any QB - and that isn't exactly our forte right now.

Let's not even broach what they may do to us in the run game.

    Re: The quiet storm

What I look for is an ISU team that really does fly out of the locker room with the belief that they can play with Iowa. A 1 pt win vs. a 1-AA team let's a fledgling ISU team believe in itself and look to deliver a statement against their hated foe.

    Re: The quiet storm

The way both teams played last week there really isn't any reason for either side to be too confident.

It's really polar opposites as far as the concerns go. ISU fans were concerned about their defense (especially their run defense) and Iowa fans are concerned about their offense (especially their run game)

    Re: The quiet storm

I think both sets of fans are cautiously optomistic and understandably nervous at the same time. Frankly, I feel better about this game than some of the others that we have won in the past. At least we don't have to listen to a week of "Kirk kept the playbook closed against UNI". I think we saw everything they have at this point. I think Iowa's running game will improve this week, but not enough.

ISU has won in Kinnick more times than Iowa has won in Jack Trice in the last decade.
