    AA more Carries than ARob..Why!!!

AA is a good "runner"/quick, but why would our quarterback have more carries that a "Run"ning back?!!!! (A position designed to RUN the football)

I feel that if Austin's first read, sometimes second, isn't wide open; He quickly tucks and runs....

Yes, he looked good against NDSU.
But against Big12 talent, I would assume we would be better off with the RB running.
Not to mention we don't need our QB getting hit that many times.

Sure there are a couple designed QB runs, and a couple scrambles on passing plays......But 17!, come on.

This offense is going to spread out the defense and look for mismatches. We won't have many mismatches by running the ball with ARob. I think we will try to get him the ball in space and one on one more though.

Because we run a spread offense..we're not suppose to run much...i was suprised of how much we ran against ndsu

Arnaud's talent on the run is a huge weapon. The very possibility that he might tuck it and run 15 plus times a game changes the way that teams have to gameplan for us. They have to spy him, or account for it in one form or another.

Wrong, a spread offense does not mean you don't run the football. you just do with with the D spread out.

Re: AA more Carries than ARob..Why!!!

    Why?

    1. Because the quarterback reads the defensive end and if the end is crashing in, the quarterback keeps the ball.
    2. Because we tried to limit the offense so we don't show future opponents too much too early. The quarterback read was about the only running play we used all night.
    3. When we establish our quarterback as a runner, it creates a whole new level of problems for the defense because they now have to account for that.

Also, with AA running, you have an extra blocker.

Re: AA more Carries than ARob..Why!!!

I'd MUCH rather have a QB that makes a couple quick reads and takes off if it's not there than a guy that just holds the ball in the pocket, getting sacked a lot.

I don't care who or how the yards come, as long as we get them and they lead to scores. AA has proven he can be elusive on his feet. Without his running ability, we don't come close to making a comeback and going into OT against UNLV.

The one thing I hate is the designed QB draws. I know we will see a lot of them this though. If AA makes a couple of reads down field and doesn't see anyone open, then fine you go ahead and run. I just can't stand the QB draw up the middle that go no where.

The QB has to keep it a substantial amount of times to validate the whole zone read theory. If AA pitches the ball 3/4 or more of the time then it's simply just a pitch play.

This. is probably what Herman wants arnaud to do. check WR #1, #2, maybe #3, then tuck it and run. he didn't want AA to hold the ball long in the pocket, so if the receiver isn't open- he won't have to force it, just run baby!

That's basically the offense that Herman runs.

Last year at Rice the no. 1 QB carried the ball 154 times and the no. 1 TB carried 167. The no. 2 QB carried the ball 9 times and no. 2 TB carried 12 times.

Their QB also scored 12 of their 21 rushing touchdowns.

Re: AA more Carries than ARob..Why!!!

I thought Arnaud seemed too unwilling to let plays develop against NDSU, maybe he was anxious, or maybe nervous, who knows. But he took off before there was any pressure a number of times and seemed jittery, more noticeably in the first half. The second half looked a lot better, which makes me think the first half was just beginning of the season butterflies.

Having AA run as much as he does bothers me as well. If he goes down our season looks dramatically different.
