    NFL Prospects

I know its only the second week of the season but my biggest pet peeve as a Cyclone fan is seeing guys from UNI or Iowa get drafted and very rarely (it seems) see Cyclones go in the draft. Who does ISU have that possesses NFL talent??? Everybody talks about Leonard Johnson but do guys like Stephens or Franklin have a chance? Curious as to what others think...

    Re: NFL Prospects

I think we have several players that are just as good as others that get drafted, the problem is that we havent won for a few years, and those guys dont get the looks that others do. Hopefully that will change soon.

Kenard Banks is also a player that has some NFL talent...very solid CB that likes to hit...I also think Frankin will be a pro..just a big strong TE with some soft hands...and Jesse Smith really opened my eyes vs ndsu he had 15 tackles and was all over the field..

No way Jesse Smith ever makes it as a pro. Banks either, unless he learns to cover. IMO, Sims has a shot with his size and speed.

You're kidding right? the guy runs a 4.7 and couldn't cover a WR with a broken leg. I love the guys heart and he is one of the better run stopping LBs we've had, but that's the only thing he can do well.

He would get absolutely abused in the NFL because he has approximately 0 speed.

    Re: NFL Prospects

I was more wondering about O-Lineman and Franklin. I don't know enough about either position to be able to decide whether or not the guy had the talent to play at the next level. Haughton moves guys off the ball like crazy and I doubt anybody works harder than Stephens.

Saying that Jesse runs a 4.7 is probably an exageration.

No way. Banks has to learn to tackle and Jesse Smith has to learn to run A LOT faster.

Marquis Hamilton should get a shot.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

I don't think he talented enough to make it.

Speed and quickness. Hitting hard is one thing, but you need to get to the RB to make the hit in the first place. Speed is a huge factor in NFL talent.

He's great at stopping the run, because all he has to do is read where the RB is going and shoot a gap. Since that's all NDSU does, he was able to just plant himself in the middle of the line and do what he does best. If he has to cover any amount of field he is screwed, as demonstrated last season every time a WR was open over the middle, how many times did a TE or slot WR brun us over the middle for a 20+ yard gain or a TD? I'm not sure, but it was a lot and it was mostly JS's fault. Again, I love the guy's heart and he is a sure tackler and a great run-stopping LB (as you mentioned with 15 stops against a running team), but he will never see even a look for the NFL as the NFL requires LBs to do a lot more than stuff the run.

    Re: NFL Prospects

The reason we don't get any NFL prospects is because we don't get enough publicity and have not had a winning team in a couple of years. We need to win to get publicity and get NFL prospects.
