Boise State a lock for a BCS bowl

A non-BSC team, Boise State is a lock for a BCS Bowl. Boise State has already played their Super Bowl and their isn't another team on their schedule that has even a remote chance at defeating them.

    Way too early. Upsets happen.

Schedule has to have some thing to do with it, not simply being undefeated.

Just ask USC if upsets happen...

    Signed: Oregon State and Stanford

Unlike USC, there is no one "next" on Boise State's schedule to cause them to overlook their current opponent...

Re: Boise State a lock for a BCS bowl

Here is what I disagree with, Boise State knows that they have a cake schedule in their conference (which isn't BCS for a reason). Thus I don't agree with them being able to go to a BCS game by beating one BCS team (who looked horrible) then running the table.

I really think that if these teams want to play with the big dogs, then they need to schedule more of the big dogs. They should work out deals to play more BCS teams so that at least 4 of their games are true comparisons to the teams that they want to be like.

If the WAC made it as a BCS conference, then teams like Boise State would never have to schedule a real team. The conference has 1 or 2 teams that are relevant on the national scene but the rest are the cupcakes that everyone else schedules. Even the Big East has a handful of relevant teams.

Basically what I am saying is that until a non-bcs school plays 4 straight BCS teams for their non-conference schedule, I don't want to hear them complain about being left out of the party. Prove yourself before asking for credit.

It is still extremely presumptuous to say Boise St. will go undefeated at this point, bad football teams can play out of their minds or Boise St. could get unfocused at some point.

If they run the table BCS game yes, Natl Championship no.

Re: Boise State a lock for a BCS bowl

Speaking of Boise State I was wondering this the other day. With the recent (past 6 years or so) success of the the following teams, how would you rate them in prestige. Boise, Utah, BYU, TCU. Let's say BYU's national title is out from the 80's so I'm just talking about prestige in the mind of the past few seasons. I say:

    1. Boise
    2. Utah
    3. BYU
    4. TCU

I think you could easily swap Boise and Utah. Anyone else?

Fresno State comes the closest to this. Wisconsin, Cincinatti, Illinois and UC Davis (hey can't play them all heh).

Some of the schools have trouble scheduling BCS opponents though. A lot of folks don't want to go play at a WAC stadium for various reasons, including revenue.

Boise State does have a cupcake schedule, but I wouldn't rule them getting beat out of things. If they DO go undefeated, it depends on a few things if they are deserving of a championship game:
Are there two other undefeated teams?
Is Oregon actually decent this year?
Are there two other 1 loss teams from either the SEC or Big XII? I think one loss in those conferences is easily the same as undefeated out of the WAC.
What is the actual strength of schedule at the end of the year for Boise? If it's lower than, say 70 or so, I don't think there's any way they should go.

Boise State would win a poll easily because they get more publicity and have a couple of high profile wins (Oregon last week and the epic bowl win over Oklahoma).

But of the four, Utah has the best record against BCS teams over the past 6 years, and it's not even close. TCU is 2nd, Boise State 3rd, and BYU 4th:

    Utah 8-2
(wins - Michigan, Alabama, UCLA, Arizona twice, Ga Tech, Texas A&M, Pitt; losses - Oregon State, UCLA)

    TCU 6-5
(wins - Stanford, Baylor twice, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, ISU; losses - Oklahoma, Texas, Cincinnati, Louisville, Texas Tech)

    Boise State 5-5
(wins - Oregon twice, Oregon State twice, Oklahoma; losses - Washington, Georgia, Oregon State, Boston College, Louisviille)

    BYU 6-9
(wins - Oklahoma, Washington, UCLA, Oregon, Notre Dame; losses - Arizona twice, UCLA, Boston College twice, Cal, Notre Dame, Stanford, USC)

Any of these teams can get jacked up and beat a BCS team once or maybe twice a year. Their long-term records show where they'd be if they had to play a Big XII schedule against BCS teams week in and week out.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

We have seen that a team can go 4-4 in the big 12, make it to the big 12 championship game, win the big 12 championship, and get an automatic bcs bowl
I don't think that's more unfair than Boise going undefeated and getting a bcs bowl.

If BYU or Boise make it undefeated this year they deserve to make a BCS bowl because in the non conference they went out an played a really good football team. Id like Boise to join the MWC then that conference should get an auto bearth into the BCS

hmmm lets see, that would mean that they won 5 games against BCS caliber schools including a win late in the season over a hgihly ranked team...more deserving in my opinion.
