    Best college football gameday experience

What school & stadium -- not including ISU -- is the best gameday experience you've ever had? I'm talking about the gameday environment -- tailgating, stadium, bands, cheerleaders, tradition, everything (disclaimer for UI fans: Exclude your 'experience' in the bathrooms at the Metrodome). Also, what stadium(s) do you most want to visit on a gameday?

    Best ones visited for me:
    Michie Stadium (Army)
    Husky Stadium (Washington)

    Ones I want to visit:
    Beaver Stadium (Penn State)
    Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (Navy)
    Rose Bowl (UCLA)

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

The ones I have really enjoyed...

Wisconsin vs Minnesota at Camp Randall for the Paul Buyan Axe...

Army vs Air Force at Falcon Stadium in Colorado

Oklahoma vs Nebraska in Lincoln, back in the late 70's

My personal favorite, I know it's D2 but it was over 110 years of match-ups til it ended in 2005...UND vs NDSU

Re: Best college football gameday experience

    1. Nebraska (it was against a ranked K-State team in 2003 that ended up beating them 38-9). The pre-game and in-game atmosphere was great, even for my dad and I coming in as K-State fans. They have great tradition there.

    2. Kansas State. I've been to both ISU games at K-State and the tailgating in Manhattan is almost as good as ours (as long as you know the drink in a plastic cup rule...). In-game atmosphere is usually pretty good too.

    3. Iowa. This is pretty much the only other place I've been to, to see a college game. Didn't get there in time to tailgate. In-game atmosphere was pretty good (rivalry, of course..).

Re: Best college football gameday experience

    Been to:
    Virginia 6
    - tailgating is meh, cheerleaders are excellent, tradition is meh, stadium is cool architecturally
    Iowa State 7
    - tailgating is tops, tradition, stadium, and cheerleaders we won't discuss
    Iowa 4
    - tailgating in people's yard sucks, legends in their own minds, plaza on the south? side of the stadium is nice
    Notre Dame 4
    - complete pain to get around South Bend on gameday, tailgating or parking near the stadium is non-existent. Stadium is gi-freaking-normous and they've definitely got tradition and history
    West Virginia 6
    - tailgating is decent, cheerleaders are awful, atmosphere is really cool
    Washington 7
    - great setting for a stadium, tailgating is pretty darn good, has some history (although not lately)

    Would like to see gameday:
    Michigan
    Ohio State
    Georgia
    Virginia Tech
    LSU
    USC
    UCLA
    Oregon
    Wisconsin
    Texas

Re: Best college football gameday experience

LSU 2004 in Baton Rouge. I was living in New Orleans and went for the Tulane/LSU game. Since the game really was going to be a mismatch and the teams are geographically so close, didn't think it would be a big deal to wear Tulane Green...big mistake. We got yelled at all night long. My family of 4 was probably 4 of 300 Tulane Green in a sea of 94,000 or so LSU fans.

I would love to go to a big SEC rivalry game sometime, especially at night. Preferably at Florida, LSU, or Tennessee.

    I would love to visit...

Notre Dame and view "Touchdown Jesus"
The Swamp and see the Florida Gators play...
OSU vs Michigan at Ann Arbor
Maybe Rocky Top or The Rose Bowl....

I did see the Broncos vs Giants at the Rosebowl for SuperBowl XXI, but not the same as College Crazies...

So far, there have been a lot of good ones. But, Texas A&M takes the top spot. That was just an awesome trip all around.

Being in LA until December for work, I'm hoping to hit a USC and/or UCLA game.

Sit in the south? endzone, look out between the goalposts on the other side and you can

I didn't think the renovation made that side of the stadium any taller. I thought it only made that ginormous *** press/luxury box?

You can still see him...I did today. It's not the same as before the expansion but the magic of TV makes it seem like the library (touchdown Jesus) is right outside the gate.
