    LB play

saw Jesse Smith was the leading tackler. It appeared on TV that most the tackles were 5-6 yards past the LOS tho. For you at the game..did he play well?

    Re: LB play

Overall, from what I saw Je. Smith looked good. I loved the aggressive D packages - on at least an occasion or two, Smith lined up just outside the end.

    Re: LB play

i really liked what i saw from the D packages
the player i thought was impressive was Sims, the guy was everywhere! im really pumped up to see what he can do against iowa.
Smith i thought did a good job reading the offense and was actually wrapping people up, in the first half and parts of the 2nd it looked like we were just tryin to push them over or one arm tackling, but seemed to improve as the game went on

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Yes Sims was all over the field like he could teleport. Smith had a sweet hit though and looked great.

I think Je Smith had a good game. I think lack of tackles by the DL and lack of TFL by the DL is concerning. You would have thought we would get more disruption and into the backfield from the DL.

Did we not have any sacks until 4th Q when we knew they had to throw?

    Re: LB play

Our LB's are below average. Sorry to say it but it is the truth. Not great tacklers (minus Smith), not great speed, and horrible in pass coverage.

Parker almost had a sack earlier in the game, but the QB just got rid of the ball. Looked like intentional grounding from where I was, but there might have been a receiver somewhere close. They got som pressure in the first half, but the Bison really didn't throw much. When they did throw, they were mostly quick passes with YAC that added up.

I was thinking the same thing, but I figured he was outside of the pocket and the ball must have gone past the LOS...

    Re: LB play

I was watching the replay in mediacom. On the long NDSU run down the east sideline, why does Jessie Smith take an attack angle straight up the middle when the play was flowing to the outside? Why is he not flowing down the line of scrimmage to string the play out? He took himself out of that play immediately. Does anyone know if this is how he was taught or was it just a brain cramp?

    Re: LB play

I remember thinking during the game that Raven was playing really well. But like all the LB and Safeties, I think it was really up and down. I'm pretty sure there were a number of plays where he didn't shed a block he should have.

That might be a bit too in depth of analysis. That was a bad play for the whole D, not just Smith.

    Re: LB play

agreed...no question about it. but there would have been one more body to make a play when 4 or 5 didn't seem to be enough. point taken.

Jesse the first half was a beast. The second half Sims really was motoring. Still am not impressed with blitz packages. We look weak.

Other than Benton coming from the nickel late in the game (which worked really well), did we run any blitz packages?

    Re: LB play

Did we watch the same game? our LB play got cut up for 200+ yards by a D-1AA back.

Our LB sold out on a lot of the runs, charging gaps and getting blocked.
