Goodell foresees no salary cap in 2010

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell: Owners preparing for uncapped 2010 - ESPN

No NFL salary cap next season seems a foregone conclusion to Roger Goodell.

Without any substantive negotiations toward a new collective bargaining agreement, NFL commissioner Goodell said Thursday team owners are preparing for an uncapped 2010 season, the final year of the current deal that the owners opted out of last year.

"Because of the timing, we recognize there's a strong reality there will be an uncapped year, and the owners have planned for it," Goodell said.
As a Cowboys fan, I like it.

This would ruin everything the NFL has done to try and make the league more balanced. Also, if the owners lose the salary cap, I'd say there is a 90% chance there will be a lockout after 2010.

The last thing they need is to break a product that doesn't need fixing.

They did quite well before it was implemented.

This would probably be the beginning of the end for me giving any sort of crap about the Chiefs.

you would think this would be priority number 1 for Goodell, but it doesn't seem like he is that concerned.

Yea...one would think. But Goodell is way to worried about punishing players. I think its great that he is actually doing something to players who get in trouble with the law...but it seems like he is putting things like this off to the side and not worrying about them.

Publicly, no. But I highly doubt it's not near the top, if not the top on his list. What can he do about it at this point? The season is going to start and the NFL marketing machine does not want to take away from that at all.

It's all really up to the owners and players union (or whatever that's called) to come to some sort of agreement. Goodell can only facilitate it as far as I understand.

Re: Goodell foresees no salary cap in 2010

NFL really needs to keep the salary cap in place and on top of that go to structured rookie salaries like the NBA does as well. I think ever since they went to a cap the league has been a lot more competitive and the big market teams don't just dominate the league like they do in MLB.
