Glad we got the win. However

I wish we played Iowa the third game of the season to give us one more week to iron out the kinks. We were missing something last night. I know it's the new staff, new offense, new defense. It always happens when we get new coaches. The great part is this coaches staff knows what a kink is and will fix it. The old staff just rolled with the kinks and never fixed them. I am very happy we won and think we did a great job. Just wish we had one more game for the Iowa Preperation

Does anyone think we ran a different gameplan last night so that Iowa would not have much film to prepare with this coming week?

Agreed. I just think that no one needs to be up in arms because of last night. What we saw was *GOOD COACHING* but the execution was not as strong as it needs to be. I think we see a solid improvement next week and win a tough game next weekend!

They used the gameplan they thought would be most effective. I'm sure they thought they had an advantage in the trenches against NDSU. I highly doubt we see as many running plays from ISU next week.

Maybe, at least as far as personnel is concerned, but won't Iowa have all the Rice film from last season to prepare for schemes and tendencies?

Also glad Tiller got into the game to get some playing time. That could be huge down the line if Austin were to go down. I thought it was great. Also Reynolds is Austins favorite receiver. He looks for him on almost every play.

Considering that Iowa has new defensive tackles, I might disagree. There's a reason they moved big Reggie to center, after all.

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.
    (They just disappear offseason)

Well they still have 2 returning d-lineman and all three linebackers so I think I'd take my chances with the short passes. It's worked pretty well for ISU against Iowa in the past.

It scares me that we put so much emphasis on tackling and were pretty bad at times in that department. The Front 7 has got to get better somehow some way. AA looked a bit lost in the 1st half. He seemed to know where he was going to throw the ball before the ball was snapped. Typical 1st game stuff. Some ggod some bad, but a solid w. Most media outlets had the game picked closer than what it was.

The line of scrimmage is very questionable. ISU should have manhandled NDSU on the line, but that didn't happen. The D-line looks very questionable. ISU's going to have to pull out everything for this game because I think Iowa will own the line. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of short passes and counters. On D ISU is just going to have to shoot gaps and blitz and hope they don't get burned that often. You seem to have Iowa's number at home so hopefully that will continue.

Probably should try to stay away from the counters and use the quick hitters right up the gut on the running plays.

However, after seeing last nights game I'm guessing the Hawks will use the counter A LOT

You might be right there. On O I would spread them out and pass short routes all night until they start cheating up and then try to get behind them. On D you just have to take a bunch of chances.

Maybe take solace in the fact that they get an extra long week of practice? They have 8 days where they would normally have 6.

I do agree it would be nice to have another tune-up before the Iowa game, but if we don't beat Iowa, then we still have a chance to pick up a couple more victories in the non-conference schedule. I'd like to see us get to 3-1 in the non-con, no matter whom the wins come against.

Everyone remember, a team makes its greatest improvements between week 1 and 2.

    Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
    'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

ISU certainly has had a lot of success using basically this same strategy against Iowa in the past, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't use a similar approach this time around (especially with the good group of receivers they have)
