    I-80 last night 12-1am

OMG I was frustrated last night. It took me an hour to drive roughly 4 miles and there wasn't even an accident. Shouldn't the road crews plan for this a little better?

I agree 100 percent. I didn't get home until 3:15 and had to be at work this morning at 5. That was one of the most brutal traffic jams I've ever stomached in my life.

I left at 10:30pm and didn't arrive home in Johnston until 1am.

    Re: I-80 last night 12-1am

I'm checking to see if the DOT has an e-mail address for feedback.

I'm dumbfounded that they would schedule road repairs that close all but 1 lane on a night like last night. I would have been home at 11:30 but ended up home at 12:30 instead. Idiots.

    Re: I-80 last night 12-1am

This was a horrible ending to a relatively good night. It took forever to get out of lots in Ames (expected) but then having to wait over an hour in standstill traffic on I-80 was horrible. I didn't get into bed until 1:30 AM when I should have been home by 11:15-30.

    Re: I-80 last night 12-1am

I was extremely ******. It took me 45 minutes to get from Hwy 30 at Elwood to the 35/80 mixmaster (a little longer than normal but not bad) and then another 45 to get from there to NW 86th st. If they just would’ve announced it in advance I so easily could’ve taken the back way through Madrid and been home in 40 minutes!!!

Oh, and I haven’t posted since the game, so congrats to Paul Rhoads and Co. for getting that first W!!!

Oh, and had there been some sort of announcemet or notification, I would have taken I-235 through town to the west side or 141 down through Madrid on the way home. BS.

    Re: I-80 last night 12-1am

Topping of the traffic jam my wife's car overheated and most of her coolant evacuated the container, so we sat on the right shoulder for 30 minutes waiting for it to cool down. After that we decided to use the shoulder for a bit to try and it get it off the interstate, sorry to anybody that we passed, we weren't trying to **** anybody off, just trying to get her car off the interstate so we didn't have to spend the night out there...

This is why I always take the "back" way through Slater to/from Ames, you never know what's going to hose up the Interstate. Man, that sounded like a mess. Where was the construction, at the east mix master?

The DOT was working on the Merle Hay Rd. exit lane and the the right lane, they had traffic merging down to two lanes to get through. Traffic was almost backed up to 2nd Ave. when we got in the back of the line.

The "construction" was at the merle hay exit but I have a feeling people were backed up all the way to the east mixmaster.

As far as the back roads, most of the time it's faster for me to take the interstate but in this case not so much.
