    Football Scheduling

Something similar was mentioned in another thread and it got me thinking (always a bad thing but I continue anyway).

Would you support ISU scheduling a game at a major school far away, simply for the air time? Example, do you think that ISU should try to schedule a non-conference game at Florida or California just because that such a game would likely get air time in those states for recruiting and advertising sake?

    Re: Football Scheduling

Would ISU necessarily benefit ($$$) from a televised game hosted at another school?

I don't think that we would by default.

Plus - I'm not one who buys into the "any air (publicity) is good air". I see zero benefit in going somewhere and getting our face kicked in on national tv. I know others do - I don't and not much is going to change my mind on it.

Right now - I think ISU needs to schedule to maximize the development of the program. Things like the $$$ and recruiting, I believe, will follow the most by simple winning.

right now no.. in about 2-4 yrs maybe..

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

We need to do this when we have a respectable team and lose a hard faught game to USC 35-21 or something like that.

I wouldn't mind doing one of these types of games every other year or so.

Maybe start in 2-3 years like another poster mentioned.

Who is Florida's in-state rival? We should play them so we can get all the Florida fans cheering for us.

I'd prefer the attention of winning bowl games, thats the best way IMO to get the name out there. Be playing in Dec and Jan...

Or get better officials and beat a team like Florida State. Why settle for loosing?

    Re: Football Scheduling

Yeah scheduling a major game for the money on the road of course was tried before Majors got to be coach.

It just doesnt work that well, the best thing you can do to improve facilities-recruiting-natl exposure...Is just win more games than you lose and all of those things will follow!!!

Remember that hard fought game against Florida State in KC a few years back? That helped us with national attention. I like neutral site games like that....and would be in favor of ISU doing it again.

    Re: Football Scheduling

From the way the question is asked, it sounds like you would expect ISU to travel just for a TV game.

For a school like ISU, we could probably easily get a home-home game with an SEC or Pac-10 school. USC played Kansas State and Georgia is playing OSU. ISU would be attractive to a top team since they would expect to beat us at home or in Ames.

I don't think we should be doing any of that in the near future. I already think we need to buy out of our return trip to UCONN with the KSU/Arrowhead money. This program needs to get momentum and wins.

    Re: Football Scheduling

I think that we should schedule teams that will be easy for us to beat (ndsu, sdsu, iowa... kind of) so that we can continually get to bowl games. I think just having our name continually out there as going to a bowl, whether it is good or not, will do wonders for us.

However, once we reach that level of of consisitently going to upper teir bowls, scheduling a USC or a Florida, would be interesting.

Ooh, yeah. In this economy, blowing some hard earned cash is just what the athletic department needs to do!

Especially when it involves ducking out of a home and home commitment. Are you sure that you're not a Missouri fan?

I feel that this program will be in a lot better whape than people think very shortly. We already have a home and home with Utah, I think that by the time we play there, CPR will have the program prepared for that kind of challenge.

If the OP is talking a single game on the schedule, considering the existing '10 and '11 slates, I don't think it would be any time soon, in any case. But hey, about the time that Jerome Tiller is a senior, playing (and beating) an FSU in Tallahassee on national TV for a big chunk of change sounds fun to me!

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.
    (They just disappear offseason)
