Chan Gailey out as Chiefs OC

Wow! So is Haley going to call plays then?

Chan Gailey out as Chiefs' offensive coordinator - Kansas City Star

Chan Gailey has been relieved of his duties as Chiefs offensive coordinator, although it was unclear Monday morning whether he would remain with the team in some other capacity.

Coach Todd Haley, who was the Arizona Cardinals’ offensive coordinator before coming to the Chiefs, appeared unhappy with the play-calling Saturday night in the Chiefs’ 14-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at Arrowhead Stadium. At Monday morning’s practice, Haley was directing the offense, while Gailey was nowhere to be seen.

The Chiefs have just two offensive touchdowns so far, and they certainly weren’t helped when quarterback Matt Cassel was injured Saturday night. Cassel has gone down four times despite attempting only 19 throws. He was hurt when he was sacked on his first pass attempt against the Seahawks, and it’s possible he might be out for up to four weeks with a strained knee. The Chiefs were expected to address his status today.

Was gonna be that way regardless unless Cassell somehow lit it up, which is unlikely. And even he now is dinged up.

Perhaps I'll wait a bit longer to buy the Cowboys-Chiefs tix to get better seats and better prices.

The Chiefs are a mess. They would be lucky to equal last year's 2 wins. Haley, like McDaniels in Denver, is a young, ego-maniac who has proven nothing at the Head Coaching level yet wants to act like Parcells or Belichick. Somewhere, King Carl has to be smiling.

I still have faith Pioli and Haley can turn things around down there, but I'm realizing it's going to take longer that I thought...

Re: Chan Gailey out as Chiefs OC

I'd say that Gailey was probably the least of the problems that the Chiefs were facing on offense. I'd say probably their biggest problem being that their second best player (maybe best, depending on your views of Cassel) on offense is now playing for the Atlanta Falcons. I'd say you might want to actually have an offense before you start blaming the offensive coordinator for its problems.

Anyone else find it sad that the Oakland Raiders are likely easily the second best team in the AFC West this year?

I would rather have Herm Edwards coaching the Chiefs this year. It will be the first year I won't be going to KC for a game in almost 10 years.

I could easily be wrong but I have a feeling the Haley era will be an absolute disaster in KC.

I was torn over whether Herm should go last year, but honestly I don't miss him now. They may or may not be any better under Haley, but from what I've heard there was beginning to be a sense of complacency with losing under Herm. At least that's gone now.

I refused to pay for a ticket to a game last year, although I did get to go to one for free. Not sure yet if I'll make it to one this year.

I am happy to Gailey get the boot. Haley saw an issue and he was a pretty good OC. He did what he had to do... I hope it pays off now.

I thought you play to win the game?

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm looking to get Cowboys-Chiefs tickets as well and prices are pretty steep right now. Maybe a few losses out of the gate will loosen up the market a little.

You must have missed the Oakland Raiders preseason game over the weekend against the Saints in which they were behind 45-0 until the middle of the 4th quarter when they were finally able to score. Raiders are the worst team in football (yes I am even saying worse than the Lions).

You don't get any worse than the Herm Edwards era of Kansas City Chiefs football. If the Haley era is a disaster, it is because Herm and Carl had the storm waiting.

Like the Saints' offense wouldn't do worse to either the Broncos or the Chiefs...

I said that it was sad that the Raiders were likely the second best team in the AFC West. Never once did I imply that the Raiders were a good team.
