What's our kicking game look like?

This is the one area I haven't really been covering. Not sure who our long-snapper is or who we are using on P.A.T's or FG's (or long-range FG's) Anybody?

This article talks about the long snapper and kicking game

"We embrace that challenge and what it presents to us. Im going to approach all 12 games this way: Were going to win them all. If we prepare and then go out and execute, were going to win all 12. Now how many are we going to end up with at the end of the year? I dont know, and youre right, I wont put a number on it."- Paul Rhoads on having the toughest schedule in the Big 12

Grant Mahoney will do all kicking duties.

Re: What's our kicking game look like?

I more interested in our Kickoffs. Was watching the highschool game on Tha ESPN yesterday and the Florrida kicker was putting it through the end zone. I know they dont kick from the same yard distance, but what a difference that would make with our crappy D. But i realize hardly anyone is doing it these days.

Confirmed or speculating because he was our kicker last year? I've heard he's had a real rough fall, and last I was told, he was number two on the depth chart.

I hadn't heard that but that would seem to be a significant setback. He seemed like he was getting fairly comfortable last season and I thought he might be a pretty good kicker for us this season.

Its too bad that they burned Guyers redshirt for only one play, and he didnt even kick. He was a decoy for an onside kick..

Some of the reports out of camp on cyclones.com had him doing pretty well and impressing the coaches with some of the kicks he was hitting, maybe they left out the bad stuff?

Still its too bad that they did that because from what I hear Guyer is a more than capable kicker. He could of had 1 more year but now won't unless they can still redshirt him to give ISU 1 more year of what looks to be a good stretch for the kicking game.

Grant is listed #1 on the 08/26 depth chart and I haven't seen or heard anything that would suggest otherwise.

maybe, im not sure. My wife taught him and Grant in the same class and she asked him about redshirting and he said he was unsure since he really only did that play. Thats just what she said.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Guyer handle some kickoffs, but Mahoney is the PK and all indications is that he has gotten stronger from last season.

Re: What's our kicking game look like?

Judging from what I have seen this fall at a number of scrimmages, Mahoney will be returning as the starting kicker. Just from the last scrimmage, Mahoney was 4-5 with a 52 yarder w/ no wind to aid him while Guyer missed the fg short and also missed a 20 some yarder. Both kickers would come out and kick when a fg was needed.

The first scrimage I went to, Zach didnt dress because he was injured. Again, Mahoney made a 52 yarder, this time with wind.

The most current depth chart has Mahoney at 1 and thats all we really have to go by unless someone in here is pullin a double duty as player, coach, assistant and a poster as well.
