What start will it take to get in the AP Top 25?

    3-0?
    4-0?
    5-0?
    4-1, 5-1, 6-1?
Beating NDSU and Army won't get us any respect, but we will probably play 2 ranked opponents in our first 6 games. If we go 1-1 against them and 4-0 in the others, we should be close. If we can be 6-2 after the Nebraska game, I think we're in.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

I think we would probably have to go 7-0 to crack the top 25

6-0 gets us "others receiving votes", 7-0 gets us to 23... Highly unlikely (5-0 is our best start, ever...)

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

4-0 with blow outs over Kent State and Army would get us receiving votes. If we go down to KC and take it to K-State, watch out.

That being said, I'm still concerned about the NDSU game.

6-0 or 7-2 with wins over ranked teams

Re: What start will it take to get in the AP Top 25?

Maybe, but it is much harder to move up in the polls than to move down. Does everyone remember the recent Auburn team that went undefeated and could not get into the NC game? With Ronnie Brown and the Cadillac playing RB's, Brandon Jacobs (battering ram of the NY Giants) couldn't even get on the field. Starting with a pre-season standing as low as ours, it will probably take 8 or 9 wins to get us into the top 25.

It will depend on our record and how much the rest of the college football world gets shaken up. Crazier things have happened I suppose.

Re: What start will it take to get in the AP Top 25?

I think if ISU beats Iowa that should launch us into the top 25 easily. As Iowa is ranked #1 and has the projected top 3 Heisman contenders on their team!

Re: What start will it take to get in the AP Top 25?

I'd say 8-0 would lock us in to the top 25. Consider we're probably ranked by most in the 100's right now. That's a big hole to climb out of. Wins against NDSU, @Kent, Army, and K-State certainly won't do it. Beating Iowa would garner some attention, but probably would be dismissed since it's a rivalry game in Ames.

Winning at Kansas would get us votes. Beating Baylor would probably put us just outside the top 25, maybe in at 24 or 25. We win at Nebraska, and we're definitely in.

That said, there's no way it's going to happen.
