The better stats would be the improvements made from the year before he arrived at Rice to year one - that might tell us more of how quickly he can install his offense.

Or the improvement from his first year at Rice (2007) to 2008.

Re: Some exciting stats from Tom Herman's offense last year

Sidetracking this thread a little, but AA is around 1,000 yards passing away from being 5th all time in passing yards at ISU.

Sage is curently there with 4,164. It would be great if he could take off and own all the major passign records here thanks to Hermans schemes. If so we might have a new guy to replace all the Seneca talk.

Those would be good stats if we were in year 2 of the Herman era.

Re: Some exciting stats from Tom Herman's offense last year

Here's what I can find so far:

Quarterback Chase Clement passed for 1,707 yards in 2006 (year before Herman arrived) with a 57.7% completion rate. He had 21 tds and 5 int in 2006.

In year one of Herman offense he passed for 3,377 yards and had a 59.1% completion rate. He had 29 tds and 16 ints.

In year two of Herman offense he passed for 4,119 yards and had a 66.5% completion rate. He had 44 td passes and 7 ints.

Based on these stats we can expect AA to throw for more yards and more TDs but also throw 3 times the number of picks - with our problems on defense turning the ball over more is not a good thing.

Also, the top two receivers for Rice last year had over 1,000 yards receiving each. I would be very excited right now if I was one of ISU's receivers.

yikes, that's a big jump in int's in year 1. That's not that surprising since judging by the guys previous numbers he went from a normal passing offense to a quick read offense.

I think a lot of people would also agree that AA is a better QB than Chase Clement though. Herman himself said when he was hired something to the effect that he was really excited to work with AA.
This makes me hope that AA can increase the produciton without the turnovers. Fingers crossed.

If Herman sticks around we should be looking for some TT type scoring in a few years. It sounds like Herman is going to be looking to score as much as possible, all the time, no matter what. There might not be a lot of wins be I bet it is going to be exciting.

If Herman finds success we must find the money to keep him around and not take a coordinators job at a different school. Now, if he has a chance to be a head coach somewhere in a few years that is a different story.

i don't think that assessment is very fair.

Honestly we cant say what offense they ran pre-herman at Rice. If he was getting acclimated from a run heavy offense in 06 to a pass happy offense in 07 and almost doubled his passing yards then I'd say that was a good season of transition to a new system despite the added INTs.

If AA can almost double his passing yards under herman to around 4,500 or a few hundred more this year....im pretty certain we can overcome some extra INTs.

Let's let him prove himself first. He making pretty good money right now - a huge raise from Rice. Remember, this is his first job as an OC away from HC David Bailiff. Maybe those big numbers at Texas State and Rice could be credited to Bailiff as well.

Which is why in my post I put IF he has success at ISU. We have let too many quality coaches move on through the years and if he turns out to be a good one we need to find a way to keep him.
