Anyone in central Iowa looking for good football this Saturday?

If you are, don't miss out on Ellsworth College's home opener in Iowa Falls, featuring two of the nation's best Juco teams.

Ellsworth was a Juco bowl game winner a year ago and finished 13th in the nation in the final NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) poll. They are rated third in this year's pre-season Juco rankings and return seven starters on offense (including first-team All-American wide receiver Quinten Robinson and second-team All American quarterback Tirrell Rennie) and seven starters on defense.

Ellsworth opens at home at 1:00 this Saturday against Georgia Millitary College, which is rated 8th in the pre-season Juco rankings. There is no question you'll have the opportunity to see a few players who next year will be playing at D1 schools.

Love the shout out to Iowa Falls! ECC does have a solid football team this year. They will definitely put a lot of points on the board and are a lot of fun to watch.

Football is football. Who cares who's playing.

Re: Anyone in central Iowa looking for good football this Saturday?

    Per NJCAA | Home

Talented quarterback Tirrell Rennie of No. 3 EllsworthCommunity College highlights the ’09 preseason All-American offensive team. Rennie led the NJCAA with 3,469 yards of total offense as he racked up 1,011 yards rushing and 2,548 yards passing. He rushed for 16 touchdowns, which tied for first in the country, and threw for 20 touchdowns.

Also returning for Ellsworth is talented wide receiver Quintin Robinson who led the country with 1,102 receiving yards and 10 touchdown receptions last season. His 88 receptions tied an NJCAA record as well.
I don't care what level thats at, when youre able to play that well against anyone, its interesting to see. Plus we dont kick off til the 3rd so it would be something to hold you over til next Thurs

Sorry I'll pass on going to and watching a Juco football game, along with 99% of the population.

Also, the kicker on Ames last year, Jamison DiSalvo, is going to be ECC's kicker this year as well. Best of luck to Jay this weekend in his opener!

I think the state of Iowa has much better basketball JUCO wise than football (IMO)

There is no question Juco basketball in the state of Iowa is alive and well, rdubbs. Indian Hills historically has been at or near the top of the national Juco Division I rankings and last season, Kirkwood (another national power) was the national Division II runner-up while Ellsworth was rated number-one in Division II for five or six weeks during the season.

From my vantage point, courtside, I am truly amazed at the athletic talent some of these kids have. The Juco game is very, very fast-paced and exciting to watch.

By the way, central Iowa fans will get the opportunity to see one of Ellsworth's former players a couple of times this winter when Southern Illinois plays Drake and UNI. Tony Lewis is a tremendous talent and a more than that, a great kid:

    Tony Lewis
    Chicago, IL.
    6' 7" 230lb
    Forward
    Ellsworth Community College
    Phillips Academy

Tony announced that he will attend ISU and play for the Redbirds. The Chicago native spent the last two seasons at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, averaging 22 points and 12 rebounds this past season while earning Division II All-America honors. Lewis was a third-team JUCO Division II All-American as a freshman. He was also a member of the 2008-2009 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Pre Season All American Team.

Tony was named the DII Menís Basketball Athlete of the Week November 13-November 19, 2008. In Ellsworth's 107-105 overtime win against Parkland Lewis scored 41 points, was 16-22 for field goals, and 9-12 at the line. He also tallied four assists, two steals and 10 rebounds. He was also named the Division II Player of the Week after posting back-to-back 30 point performances for Ellsworth later in the season. Lewis scored 38 points with 10 rebounds in an 87-84 win over Kirkwood (Iowa) on Feb. 16. Two days later he scored 33 points in an 85-71 loss at Marshalltown (Iowa).

Lewis was an All-City selection in high school at Phillips while playing alongside of current Illinois State star Osiris Eldridge, for current Illinois State assistant coach Paris Parham.
