    Juco U is

Kansas State...34 jucos on the roster... most schools have less then 10-12....and looking at the most recent 2 deep K State has an unproven QB abnd a very smalll oline in front.

Not sure, but I might consider this good news.

    Re: Juco U is

I like the fact we play them first game in big 12 play. Jucos mean they are experienced, but not big 12 experienced. Hopefully that will work to our advantage in October. Maybe still a lot of kinks being worked out before big 12 play gets rolling

    This!

I think Coach Snyder has a lot of building left to do in Manhattan.

    Re: Juco U is

Snyder did a lot with JuCos during his first stink at K-State and did ok with them. However, that was with some base of high school recruited talent to work with. In the end, he was not having nearly as much success mining the JuCos as he did before. (DMac tried really hard to compete with Snyder for JuCos as well.)
I think Prince tried to start over with mostly high school recruits and did not have as much success. Snyder is going to need a few years and some good luck to rebuild the program and fit it to his scheme. I think K-State will be way behind where they were last year, especially with a new QB.

    Re: Juco U is

I would take 10 junior college players evey year if you could find at least one Seneca Wallace, Tim Dobbins or Money Reynolds in each class. Unfortunately those kind of players don't seem to come around that often. Maybe Coach Rhoads will be better at evaluating and signing Juco talent than our other coaches.

    Re: Juco U is

Just curious (and because I'm too lazy to look it up) how many JuCos did we have in Chizzlenutts first year? If I recall it was a good amount.

    Re: Juco U is

Juco kida are a good quick way to help a rebuilding program. They are generally more ready to play than incoming freshman and are a good way to build depth and allow high school recruits to develop in a system.
The problem is when you are forced to count on JuCos to come in and start or be difference makers.
DMac had some great successes and failures with this. For every Seneca and Dobbins, there were Fisher Twins (servicable only, but expeceted to be studs) and guys that didn't even make it onto campus. We got to the point that every year we were depending on a JuCo to come in and replace a graduating senior.
Chizik signed a lot of JuCos his first year because if he didn't, he wouldn't have signed many guys. He was forced to take who he could get in such an abbreviated recruiting period.
I fully endorse CPR signing JuCos whenever he deems necessary. Especially if they have a chance ot do great things like Money does. I think CPR has also has a plan to develop HS recruits into future starters though.
In general HS recruits have a higher ceiling in a program, because they will have up to 5 years in strength training and hopefully that many years with a consistent coaching staff. JuCo guys have to contribute year one and deffinitely year two to be worth it. Though it is cool to get a JuCo who can play 3 years, though that is rare.

    Re: Juco U is

K-State will tend to depend on JUCOs. With a center of decent JUCO prospects in the state, they might as well pocket some of them.

That being said, it's not always the best idea.

May no longer be the case, but I think K-State used to have more lenient rules on kids transferring from JuCos in the state of Kansas. They could get some guys in that out of state schools couldn't. There are a lot of pretty good JuCos in the state of Kansas as well.

When you get too high a percentage of your recruits being JuCos, you get in trouble.

    Re: Juco U is

I think the main point thats missed concerning the KSU roster is that 18(depending on how many stuck on campus) were from the 08 class.

K-state is returning quite a few starters this year but with graduation of 4 year players and a slug of those jucos(from 08 class) moving on I think they could really face hard times next year. I don't know the class breakdowns for KSU(fr/soph/jr/sr) but I'd bet quality depth will be a major issue next year.
