Looks like the NCAA clock rules are toast

    http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/6474394?MSNHPHMA

The much maligned clock rules appear to be converting back to the old system. Good. It looks like the NCAA is listening to coaches, fans, etc.

    Now about that playoff system...

I just read that article. What do you think of them switching kickoffs to the 30 yard line. And also making timeouts shorter. Those were two option proposed to offset going back to the original clock rules.

Re: Looks like the NCAA clock rules are toast

Why the continued need to futz with college football?

35 yardline kickoffs? Fine. Clock stopping between possessions, etc? Fine.

    Leave the game alone!

I think the shorter timeouts willl cause just as many problems as the clock rules did last season.

If they're kicking from the 30, then our kick coverage unit better be solid because we won't get many to the goal line.

Re: Looks like the NCAA clock rules are toast

i like the intentions, shorten the dead time...not the total time. i think 45 second time outs would be plenty of a change to start with...thats 20 seconds shorter. i like the idea of longer kickoffs too=more action not only on returns but on offense as field position would be 5 yards better every possesion.

Longer kickoffs would create more exciting football I think. Not as many touchbacks and special teams will have to be sharp. I don't think they need to shorten the timeouts as much as they are suggesting but some would be good.

For games that are on TV, the timeout length won't make much of a difference anyway because of commercials.

Never did understand that stupid rule. I mean, it's not like they're selling light beer. Football fans want MORE, not less football. Especially with ever-increasing ticket prices.

Never did get the "less for more" philosophy...give 'em less of what they want... and oh yeah, let's raise ticket prices, too. If I'm driving three hours to the Jack, I don't want to leave 14 plays sooner.

Re: Looks like the NCAA clock rules are toast

Clock rules last year were totally stupid and unnecessary, with every decision they need to ask: will this make the game better? if the answer is no or won't make it any better or worse, THAN DON'T DO IT...don't try to fix what isn't broken. Things like moving the kickoff back farther DO make they game better, it gets really boring watching every kick sail outta the end zone or end up in a touchback, i mean, that's not what the game is about...
