Re: Indiana to induct Bob Knight into university's Hall of Fame

Growing up in IN, either you loved Bobby (vast majority), or you hated him.

I never understood why people were surprised when he lost his temper. If there was any coach in the nation who you knew what you were getting, it was him. If you were a kid looking to play ball there, you knew that Coach Knight was one of the best, but also had a certain "Drill instructor" mentality about him and wouldn't let you just skate by.

Making it as long as he did at a school like IU, in a state like Indiana is a testament in and of itself to his talent.

He clearly deserves to be in not only the IU hall of fame, but also any other hall of fame related to basketball there is out there.

I don't know if I'd want him coaching ISU, especially in this day and age, but he's one of the best of all time, and there can never be any disputing that.

Re: Indiana to induct Bob Knight into university's Hall of Fame

i keep my nose to the ground with all things IU. The current rumor is that the new practice facility is set to be named for Knight as well. I REALLY hope that Knight and IU let old wounds heal and come back together. Both sides need it! There is no indication yet whether Knight will accept and be in attendance for his induction, but I have to imagine IU and Knight have been had correspondence through back channels and he is willing to come back into the IU family...at least that is my hope. Fingers crossed!

Once the IU president that fired him left or leaves I think that if the new one reaches out then the old wounds will heal a bit

Already happened. Myles Brand has been the president of the NCAA for years.

Is this really big news? Sounds like an athletic department trying to put out a positive sound and regain some positive vibes nationally.

It's big news. I don't think the parting went very well originally. I would suspect it would be the same as asking Larry Eustachy to join ISU's HOF.

Not the same as Larry. Knight had 30+ years at IU, Larry had 4 or so? Like it or not Bobby Knight did things the right way yet methods sometimes were wrong. No Ncaa violations and one of the best graduation rates in the country. His Era was different that ours now. I don't think Bobby would be as successful today as when he coached. The kids today are much softer and fragile.

I agree to a point I think that he would still be a sucessful coach because of the high graduation rate and no violations but he would not be the great coach that some people thought look at what he did at tech. I think at times he would struggle to find kids to play for him today because they are softer and more fragile
