    Is Tom Brady Overrated?

Before people jump all over this question hear me out.

I think Tom Brady is a great QB. I think he is a sure fire HOF QB. I just want to get that out of the way. BUT, you hear media talking about him as one of the top 5 QB's of all time. I just don't see it. Great QB, great leader, but also IMO a system QB. I think that was extremely evident last year when a QB (Cassell) who hadn't started a football game since he was in high school, led the Patriots to a 10-6 season.

So I was just wondering others feelings on Brady? Overrated? Underrated? Top 5, 10, 15 QB?

    Re: Is Tom Brady Overrated?

He'll be a top 10 QB before he's done playing. I agree with you that he's a little overrated because when people talk about him they point to his superbowl rings. Well, he sure didn't win those by himself (especially his first one). In fact it was Drew Bledsoe that led that team to a win in the AFC title game for the first SB.

I don't think he is, in fact I'd say he's a top 5 QB of all time by the time he's done. What more would he have to do for anyone to say hes not overrated? And for the record I absolutely hate the Pats but this guys desereves all the credit that he receives.

The year before they lost 0 games so six is a big difference and he threw 50 tds. Best ever is possible in my opinion.

    Re: Is Tom Brady Overrated?

I think Brady is as good as the receivers he has around him - and he's had A LOT of underrated receivers playing with him the duration of his career. That being said, it's hard to argue with the numbers he's put up over his career. Top 5 QB? Maybe. Top 10 QB? Definitely.

    Re: Is Tom Brady Overrated?

By the media love affair with him, he's overrated. He may be top 15 when all is said and done, but there are quite a few others through history I'd pick before him. He's had the advantages of his divison and great all-around teams. Stick him somewhere else and he probably wouldn't have the success. I'm not saying he's bad, he's very good. I just don't think he's top 5 or 10.

That depends on the numbers he piles up between now and the end of his career.

He's definately behind Elway and Montana right now.

I'd also put him behind Favre and Marino.

I think Manning will finish his career at the top of every major passing category so he'll be in the conversation.

Then you have the old time guys to consider.

    He couldn't hold Elway's jockstrap.

    Re: Is Tom Brady Overrated?

Let's see (in no particular order, just trying to see who all I can name)...
    Starr
    Unitas
    Namath
    Bradshaw
    Staubach
    Montana
    Marino
    Young
    Elway
    Aikman
    Favre
    Manning

That's what Brady is competing against - and I think he competes favorably with all of them.

Who? Pick your 15 QBs that you would rather have. I know a lot of it depends on how they managed the team and what kind of attack you are running. But as far as being a QB for your backyard football game, who would you pick before Brady (assuming everyone was at their prime)?

Disclaimer, I'm not saying I think Brady is the best QB ever, I just think him not being in the top 10 or 15 is a stretch.

EDIT: Great timing, jdoggivjc just supplied the list. But as he says, I think Brady could easily be argued to be the better QB than most of them on there.

Either you didn't pay much attention to Elway's career, or you are severely undervaluing him. He is by far the best QB to have ever played in the NFL. There's really nobody even close.

I'd definately put him ahead of Aikman, Bradshaw, Namath and Staubach

    Probably ahead of Young.

Starr and Unitas played so long ago I couldn't tell you. There's still a lot of people who say Unitas is top 5 though.

I think Favre, Manning, and Marino will have too great of stats for Brady to pass them.

I'd say my list would look like this.

    Elway
    Montana
    Favre
    Marino
    Unitas
    Manning
    Brady
