Re: new YMCA (no not the village people song)

    1. They raised money for a decent amount of time for it.
    2. Looks like waukee schools may be involved (they'll have use of the pool)
    3. Theres a ton of money in waukee.
    4. Waukee is still growing, and new things keep popping up there. While some areas are shrinking, others (like waukee) are growing.
    5. Have you seen Valley's football stadium?

my have things changed since I was a teenager (which was only 15 years ago). Back then, it was a rural town west of Des Moines. Now it's a town of 10K+ people.

Also about Valley's stadium. I wonder why they built the new one. They already had a stadium on the corner of 8th and Hillside that was fine the way it was. You don't see North or East building new stadiums. Instead, they UPGRADE (such as putting in extra seats and new astroturf)

They built it as part of a big campus down there. As far as i can remember it was a land trade deal with the city. And the new stadium is much, much better.

I know what you mean about waukee. I moved there when i was a kid in 93 and there was absolutely nothing out there. Closest things were a hotel and mcdonalds on 74th street, and to get groceries you had to go all the way in to 35th st in WDM. I moved back to near the mall after ISU, and its so much different even than just 5-6 years ago when there wasnt even a mall down there, much less all the other development.

the school district does at least. actually at one point Waukee was trying very hard to get Jordan Creek out there (near where the alice's road interchange will be), but west des moines came in and offered a better package.

Re: new YMCA (no not the village people song)

The Y rates have really gone up over the years relative to other health clubs, so this must be one way they are raising money. I pay $72 for Ankeny family membership, and got a card saying its going up another $2/month. I have access for all of the metro locations, except the new Mercy Healthy Living Center/YMCA in Clive, which costs another $30/month. Have you seen that one? definitely state of the art.
