    ISU History: Villians

Coinciding with a thread I saw at hawkeye nation....
Taking a stab at naming some villians in ISU history(football, basketball, wrestling, etc)

    Football

2002 Sooners. Seneca has ISU riding higher than ever. Beat Iowa and handed it to Nebby....then 49-3 happened.

Hayden Fry. Nothing more to add.

Former ISU president W. Robert Parks. If I'm not mistaken he was the guy who had no concern for athletics and was responsible for setting our FB program back 20 years.

Nebraska/Tom Osborne. I'll throw this hat into the ring as well. I spent a great deal of my childhood, teen years, and early 20's watching NU mop the floor with ISU in 50 point one sided games. Even though the wins haven't really come much this decade vs them, its nice to not go into that game fearful of what the scoreboard will look like when its finally over.

We don't reminisce, we just keep playing Tecmo Bowl & R.B.I. Baseball! In-depth strategy guides, player attributes, team rankings, along with detailed recaps of our season play. These Nintendo classics are as entertaining now as the day they were released!

Parks served from 1965-1986, which I'd say included some of our best football years, birth of HIlton Magic, Nichols and wrestling dominance, etc. I believe you're thinking of Eaton.

ESPN: college football villains was a decent read, probably what got the ball rolling

Parks gave McCullough the go ahead to hire Johnny. Basically told him we had sucked in BB as long as he could remember and wanted to do whatever it took to get Johnny to come. And he came to every game

Eaton was bad. Jichske was worse -- him and some weasel administrator who wouldn't let Steve Lester on the team after Lester passed some summer courses some where else to get his grades up. NCAA was even okay with it.

Thankfully Purdue hired Jischke so he can turn the Boilermakers into a national powerhouse.

People rip on Walden (rightfully so) but he had zero, zilch support from the administration.

Ah, Martin... Did Gene Smith get away during his tenure? Man, Smith has had no success since leaving ISU

Also reminded me of one of my wife's roommates in Ames - he and some of the other Daily staff created Jichske in the pro-wrestling video game at the house... Funny stuff!

Have you noticed the names of the programs that have had success while Smith has been there? I think it is fair to say ISU does not really fit with Smith's style. I do not mind coaches selling out for one or two seasons of success and the consequences that may follow, but it is not something I desire in an AD.
