Meh, If he is going to perform like he did in Boston then I would rather stick with the schleps they have at the back end of the rotation. But if they get him for little or nothing and try him out why not I guess.

I think St. Louis would be a very good fit... I got to see Smoltz's first start back in person. The velocity looked good, you could tell he just didn't have the feel for his pitches. Maybe that will come back with a little more time. If it does, he will be well worth the risk.

that would be nice to have him coming in the 8th inning. good chance at getting home field through the NL playoffs.
We'll have to see if he pitches well. It's his command that's killing him and that really isn't influenced by whether or not you're starting or relieving. It would have actually been better if he had his good command but couldn't maintain the velocity.
